We are planning to get sky put into one of the bedrooms reading online it says there must be a telephone socket in the room, is this just an extension from the main socket ?

Yes it is. Its so Sky can check that both boxes are being used at the same address.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Only required for Multiroom-all boxes must be connected to an active line for that (and they obviously need to both be on the same number).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We dont have multi-room so not sure if this helps - we dont have the one box that we do have connected to a phone line. They can ask that you do but dont insist on it. We dont have a phone line in our living room. They say you need it to request movies and stuff. We just dont bother

Oh, you can also buy a magic eye in Asda for about 15 quid which will send your signal to another room. You have to watch the same programme but means you can watch in bed or your living room or your kitchen but has to be the same programme. Thats why we dont pay for multi-room

Sorry that is now out of date info if you have the latest HD+ box - Box Office Movies and PPV events can be ordered via the internet connection on single room installations (not on multiroom/multiscreen accounts).

A good idea short term but sky are updating the boxes that will turn off the power to the RF2 ports next year.

Magic eyes will no longer work....

go for multiroom, free box and free install at the moment

Absolute cobblers - if this is correct why have Sky added an i/o port and sell a device that connects to this (using the same RF2 controls in the software as magic eyes) to replace the RF2 output for those that require such an output? This whole incorrect rumour started because someone incorrectly thought that the removal of the RF2 output and its replacement with internal WiFi meant that RF2 was being removed completely without them noticing that the software still included the relevant settings.

Why would Sky introduce a device on the latest boxes for a service that is going to be deleted on other boxes?
