Correct Etiquette

Good Afternoon All,
This is not one of the pressing questions of the day, however I wondered what the correct etiquette was in certain situations, e.g. advising you are going to the toilet in company and when eating in a restaurant while wearing a suit - is it correct to leave the jacket on?
Just interested.

I would say the jacket would stay on if the setting was formal, and off if informal, not so much etiquette but rather depends on the situation.
Going to the toilet in company - again its to do with who you are around. If you around professionals, then its best to say 'excuse me while I pop to the ladies/gents', but with friends I will quite happily announce to everyone that I'm going to pee....0 -

That's very much my understanding, in relation to the toilet it seems common for people to say "going to the loo," this never sounded correct when out with professional, hence why I asked.0 -
You leave your jacket on. It would be normal etiquette to say "Please excuse me whilst a take a p*ss/sh*t/bash one out/hit on George Michael/have a cheeky line"0

I don't think anyone needs to know you are going to the lav! You just rise, and say 'Excuse me.'"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

"Can you just excuse me for a minute?" or ("Shall we take a 5-minute break to stretch our legs?" from the leader of the meeting) usually works in a business environment. This works for any need - from going to the loo to checking your email about that job interview, dealing with a garment malfunction or having to phone the baby sitter ...
Jackets on in restaurants depends on the establishment - at the Ritz, yes, at Pizza hut, no!
Generally a suit jacket is not seen as an "outerwear" garment such as an overcoat would be - shirt sleeves are not "formal" so if the restaurant is formal (shirt & tie etc), you keep the jacket on! If in doubt, take your cue from the most senior person present - if that's you, then look at other clientele - if you don't care, then do what you like!0 -

This is what I would do (in a formal setting). I wouldn't announce where I was going! :eek:Life is a gift... and I intend to make the most of mine :A
Never regret something that once made you smile :A0 -
If it's hot take your jacket off, if not leave it on

If you're a woman you go to the loo when everyone else goes. Must admit I've never quite understood this herd mentality when it comes to lavatory use, but it seems to be relatively unusual for a woman to go the the ladies on her own when she's with a group of people.0 -
Announcing where you are intending to go is TMI. Just excuse yourself from the table and that's it.
As to the suit-jacket this depends on the establishment and the company.0 -

That's easy, this is an opportunity for them to discuss their gentlemen and perhaps ladies who have ruffled their feathers.0 -

This is the correct way to do it if you are running the meeting.
Whenever someone says comfort break I want to nut them, I'm aware its totally irrational :rotfl:0
