Look on the brightside. You sold the business, your mother is free of your father, your in law isn't seriously ill, and your 7 year old appears to have normal behaviour (yep they are are real PITA), and in 3 months you can do what you want as far as work is concerned. (Idea for you: offer to work part time, or on a consultancy basis with an agreed hourly rate)

Do you have to do the 3 months transition, is it going to be part of the contract?
If not, I'd be tempted to walk away as soon as the money's in the bank and let them get on with it. Or tell your dad he can transition them. Unless you need the money of course.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
