Have you ever lost something...and been reunited with it years later?

Title says it all really...but here's whats just happened to us...

number one son did a project at school some years ago, must have been about 7 it was a diary about summer holidays and if I remember rightly put quite a bit of work into it,but got quite caught up in the whole thing and produced a book full....

The class hand them in and after about a month the teacher sends a very appologetic note home to all the parents of her class explaining that she cant mark these projects as they have been lost....it transpires she took them home to read but en route she popped into a boutique, tried on some some clothes, made a purchase and left the class projects in the changing rooms....and countless calls to the shop have produced no results in tracking down the bag of projects.

Fast forward 8 years and this morning we have received in the post a lovely letter from sons old junior school, the project and a book token....it would appear that the shop has recently closed down and as part of emptying it a bag of projects has been found and returned to the school...which has in turn been forwarded on to us.

The teacher still works at the school and has retrospectively marked the projects and also included book tokens for all...and good wishes to her former pupils...who are now well into their GCSE's!!!

Its been lovely looking through the project this morning and its bought back good memories of son's younger years at the school.

So, what have you lost and been reunited with years later...and was it a good experience?

  • What a lovely story!! I lost my teddy called Edward who wore a pink dress!!!! My late father bought him for me when I was born. He went missing when we moved house when I was about 13. 7 years later my mum was up in the loft when she shouts down to me " Leanne here you are" and down flies teddy Edward . I was ecstatic!!! I'm now in my 40s and still have him!!!!

Im a bit of a keepsake addict especially about my children who are now 40 and 45.

We moved into our house about 25 years ago and a couple of months ago I received in the post the little pink band put around babies wrists when they are born. The lady who we sold our house to all those years before had found it in the loft, just lying about on the floor. I was moved that she had been so thoughtful.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

When my sister and I were little we had our own set of cutlery each, mine had deer on and hers had giraffes. One day we couldn't find her knife. I remember my dad emptying out the contents of the bin and searching through it all but it didn't show up.

About 15 years later they were doing some work to the kitchen and took the sink out. The knife appeared from the pipe below the sink. It had slipped down the plughole but gone no further!

ps - lovely story about the projects!
  • I lost contact with my very first girlfriend through having to move to play sport...we met 3 weeks ago after 46 years...and have just returned from a magical short break in Woodhall Spa. Life can be full of amazing surprises :)

I once bought a kid's book in a charity shop & inside it was my friend's (very unusual) name scrawled in childish writing. She said she had donated it to a jumble sale when she was around 10 or 11!

No, but I live in hope of being reunited with my engagement ring, the brown set of keys, the blue set of keys and the videotape of the kids when they were tiny:o.

When we had the old fire surround ripped out we found a collection of old greetings cards, bills, invitations and a coupon for 4 free cans of Grolsch (sadly long-expired) but no cash or anything meaningful, unfortunately. :(

Not years later but I do have an odd one.

My husband bought me a very expensive watch for my 40th birthday. A few months later I misplaced it. I swore I'd left it in the bathroom when I'd had a bath but extensive searching in the house yielded nothing. I was really upset.

About 18 months later I went to bed as usual one night. My bedroom door was locked, we have this stupid door which swings open and bangs with the slightest breeze, so we put a little hook on it to keep it shut when we are in bed. I was the only one in the house, husband was away. I woke up the next morning and the first thing I saw was my lost watch sitting there on the bedside table, right next to my glass of water. It absolutely wasn't there when I went to bed, I have absolutely no idea at all where it came from.

I've asked everyone I know who comes into the house but no one has yet admitted to finding the watch or putting it there. It will remain one of life's mysteries.

    Did I mention ghosts?

I simply said I have no idea how it got there.

My daughter threw a bottle with a note into the sea when she was small and at Brownie Camp. About 15 years later she got a fab reply from a lovely gentlemen telling her where it was found etc.
