I don't get why they didn't just action the chargeback as the hire company could still have confirmed the transaction as legitimate if it wan.

If Barclays settle make sure they add on an acceptable compensation payment for giving you the runaround.

If you are happy with any settlement there is nothing to gain from going to the FOS. They won't investigate a settled complaint. If you remain unhappy and don't accept Barclays offer then do se the FOS.

Have you contacted Auto Europe about this? They will have better contacts at Europcar and if you are persistant I am sure they will help you out.

Auto Europe customer services are generally very good and it is free to call. Make a note of the representative you speak to when you call and if you need to call back ask for them again.
