Were you parked near a mobile phone tower, it sounds similar to a problem people were finding cars of all makes doing strange things like immobilisers being activated for no reason, windows opening, central locking unlocking, when people had to be recovered by the AA etc. the patrol men simply towed the vehicle a short distance from the tower and the problem would be solved.
It came to light here because a certain supermarket beginning with T allowed a mobile tower to be installed disguised as the petrol staion sign!!
Slightly off topic, but near where I live is a fake tree and inside it there is a phone mast..
It's the tall thin tree in this pic:

It's a 'feature' in the Renault range of cars.0

I'm sure the responses above have got it covered, but there is one other possibility.
I was manning the gate for a bike rally last year, and a mate brought his car with a load of gear in to help out. He parked in nearby and locked it. A few minutes later, the heavens opened and we had a biblical downpour for about ten minutes. I looked at his car and saw that one of the windows was open, and told him. The interior of the car was soaked, and he swore that he closed all the windows before leaving it. Fairly new car (Hyundai, I think) so he went back to the dealer to complain.
It turns out that the car has sensors under the seats, and he had left his wife's handbag on the back seat. He had then closed the windows and locked the doors. The car thought that he had locked a passenger in there and automatically opened the window to save him or her from suffocation. Seems to me that cars are getting too clever for their owners. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0
