All my windows opened on there own!!!

Options
Hi
I own an 04 plate Ford Cmax and a strange thing happened last night, all the windows opened on there own.
I never used my car yesterday, didn't even unlock it or use the key in any way, and this morning I find that all my windows are wide open on my car.
The car was still locked and the alarm set.

Does anyone have any idea how this could have happened or why it happened?

Worth trying advice from Ford below

This is part of the global closing and opening. Try to reset by pressing and holding the unlock button until all the windows have opened, then press and hold the close button until all the windows have closed. Then use as normal.

Check your remote - a lot of remotes if you hold down the unlock button for a few seconds whilst unlocking it also drops all the windows - handy on a summers day. Likewise holding the lock button for a few seconds puts all windows up.

Possibly you've inadvertently pressed the unlock button for a couple of seconds.

I had this happen on 2 307s i once leased. Left them in a Birmingham City Centre car park and returned to find all windows dropped down. On both cars Peugeot changed the electric windows motor and they were fine

I had the same thing happen in my previous 307, parked up at Butlins for the weekend, came back to the car on Monday morning to a very wet drivers seat. 3 hour drive sitting on a damp towel.

Surprised you still had the stereo after the incident in Brum.

Were you parked near a mobile phone tower, it sounds similar to a problem people were finding cars of all makes doing strange things like immobilisers being activated for no reason, windows opening, central locking unlocking, when people had to be recovered by the AA etc. the patrol men simply towed the vehicle a short distance from the tower and the problem would be solved.

It came to light here because a certain supermarket beginning with T allowed a mobile tower to be installed disguised as the petrol staion sign!!

Before I even opened the thread, I knew this would be Ford.

I found this happen too many times on my Mk3 Mondeo. It is the general module which controls central locking and all that jazz. A new one is £400 - you have to get the part from Ford. It's not too tricky to fit, but some dealerships won't sell you the part on it's own, they only do it fitted and come off with the BS that it needs to be "coded". It doesn't need to be coded to anything, it's a slap in job.

However, Ford's general modules go bad for no reason whatsoever and replacing it is a matter of borrowed time. Eventually, you will get locking problems as well and alarm going off whenever it damn well chooses.

Please don't take my word for it, google is your friend!

However, I did find a catch all fix which eliminated my problems entirely. I just quit bothering to lock the car. I felt it was more trouble than it was worth, I didn't leave anything of value in the car and I did it partially as I was sick to death of coming out in the morning, finding the central locking would whir and instantly lock itself again and I would have to clamber through the boot to open the door from the inside. It had ruined far more mornings than I can even count.

So, £400 to replace the module which will work to begin with but gradually fail again, or keep nothing of value in the car and just leave the damned thing unlocked.

Another thing to check, i dont know if they do the same thing on all their cars but the module that controlls the windows etc is in the passenger footwell, my dad had a blocked drain and the footwell filled up with water under the carpets! making the windows do random things

They were brand new so had standard worth nothing stereos in them. never kept any belongings in them (thankfully). on both occasions i returned to find a police "don't leave your windows open" notice on the drivers seat... thanks guys!
