Communal Sky Dish not working

Hi there,

I am the landlord of a property in a block of 21 flats.

We currently have a Sky Dish on the roof which is need of a service/upgrade.

Our first property management company were kicked out (via a tribunal)

Our new property management company have been in touch with Sky about the dish but they are claiming that they did not install the dish and therefore are not willing to do anything about it.

What are our options? Sky are claiming they didn't install it and are therefore not responsible. But they are happy to continue charging the residents. Is our only option to leave their service one by one?

Sky will not speak with me directly, as i'm a landlord and not the property management company. Very frustrating

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.

Could it have been a diy dish ? Have Sky given a quotation to supply a new one ? I imagine they will be willing to bargain, as they risk losing more than one customer.

You misunderstand the nature of what Sky provide. Even if they did install it, the dish (and other equipment) is not leased, but your property as landlord from the day of install . It's under warranty for the first 12m, and after that any service calls are chargeable.
If they didn't install it, (which their records appear to show) then it''s nothing to do with them and you simply need to call out an independent contractor to sort it out.
Asking Sky to pay for a dish repair after 12m is akin to asking them to pay for a new TV just because you are a Sky subscriber!
PS: dishes don't need 'servicing' or upgrading, so what is the problem with it?

We are going back to Sky after 20 years, so they are providing a new dish and cables. Perhaps they would supply a free one to the block, if one tenant took a new contract.

Not if, as they state, they did not install the communal dish in the first place.
As Macman says above, the OP's only realistic option is to pay an independent to carry out whatever remedial work which appears to be needed-although it's not clear exactly what is wrong with the dish in the first place.

But a new customer would require a dish to get the service, regardless of the operation of the present dish.

But the OP is not a new customer. They are an existing subscriber.

Communal systems use different dishes, lnbs and distribution units (multiswitches) to those used on domestic installs which Sky do not supply or fit. Sky pass all communal installations to local specialist firms. A standard dish and lnb would be absolutely useless to a communal system. Sorry you appear not to have a clue about this type of system.

    teddysmum, you're confusing the issue.

Sky don't install communal dishes, a local contractor would have been used to do the install.

All the OP needs to do is get the management company to phone a local independent installer who will be able to do any work necessary.

Look Sensitive Susie, I wasn't in any way rude. I merely pointed out that you were confusing things. Which you were.

Furthermore, if you did actually find my observation rude or offensive, may I suggest you stay off the internet, it's a place full of observations and opinions that might upset you.
