What to do with O2 Router

Hi,
I am no longer with O2 for broadband (along with many others) and not sure which is the best way to get rid of my router.
O2 do not want it back, I have tried to get rid of it on freecycle. But I feel awful just taking it down the tip to landfill.
I have googled if it is possible to use it with a different ISP, it is possible but such hassle not many people would bother.
Is there any use for it now? It is terrible dumping something that essentially works but as it is locked to O2 is not much use to anyone.

Your local tip should have an electrical recycling section, it should not go to landfill if you put in in the relevant section..0

Thank you, I will check out the three tips that we have local and see which one has an electricals section.
As an aside I was reading the other day that The co-op supply a router with their broadband that isn't locked to them so that if you leave you can use it with your next provider. Much more sensible.0 -
Scrounger, that is great, I don't need to use it for that but my son may, he has his 'man space' right at the end of his house and his coverage is ropey.
I will pass on info to him. Thanks.0 -
You could sing "what shall we do with an O2 router" to the tune of "what shall we do with a drunken sailor". :beer:0

First verse: 'put it in the cupboard until it's older'...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
