Hi all,
I am in the process of buying a new house and one thing I didn't remember to check was the tv situation!
It's a listed building so i'm not able to get a satellite.
Is my only option Freeview?
Thanks

Does the house have a garden,if so you maybe able to fit a dish at ground level if there are no obstruction to line of site to the satellite you wish to receive. There are also 'hidden' type dishes, dearer but less visually obtrusive.
Otherwise it's cable if you are in a cable area or Freeview with or without Youview. If you want subscription channels look at BT and TalkTalk Youview offerings or the Now TV box (£9.99) allows days passes (expensive) to some Sky offerings0 -

Yes, for cable TV your only choice will be Virginmedia.0

If it was Sky or Freesat you wanted, why not explore the 'dish in garden' option? The sole reason that Sky installers stick them on house walls is because it''s the fastest method, using the least cabling-but it's not the only option. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Contact your Local Council's Listed Buildings Officers for advice... it may well be possible to site the dish in a suitable way with agreement. The planners will offer basic advice freely.
In general see http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/antenna/
NOTE: Freeview also requires the use of Antennas (aerials) {a dish is an antenna} so the same rules apply - unless you can fit one inside a loft.

..or have a strong enough signal to use a table top indoor aerial. We have one that has a mains run booster, but is sufficient without this. However, we are only about 3 miles from the transmitter.0 -
A listed building or Conservation area does not automatically preclude a satellite dish. Many roofs have areas unseen from ground level and will be fine to install, especially the smaller dishes painted to match the surrounds.0

Yes, OP should investigate having a camouflaged/hidden dish installed. It will obviously involve extra costs, however.0

I use an internal aerial for my freeview, I find it works better than the external one!! I also hook up my laptop to the tv (setting it to dual screen so I can still use the laptop if I want) and use things like "Iplayer", "Catchuptv" , "4OD" or "lovefilm". Works fine for me at the mo.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0
