Think Avast may be stopping my wi-fi dongle linking old computer to home wifi

I have been using an edimax wireless high-gain usb adapton to connect old computer to my home wifi. Out of the blue this morning it stopped connecting to the internet. Had a look and I can't see the dongle thing on the desktop and think it was there so went to reinstall it and and at the point where it installs and scans for networks avast pops up and says:
Object: C:Program Files\...RtWl95a0.rra
suspicious file blocked, ingfectionWIN32:Evo-gen (susp)
action: moved to chest
Process: C:DOCUME 1\LOAN\...setup.exe
And no networks are found.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Don't be so impatient.
Normally you can tell most AV programs to ignore or put it into an exception rule.
Have a look at Avast options when it appears/ or look in the vault and see if you can restore the file and make an exception for it.0 -
I didn't think I was being impatient. I work from home and without this I can't do any work and am wasting the day.
Thanks for your help though.
It does give me that option - to ignore or make an exception or whatever but I wasn't sure if that would maybe be dangerous if Avast was spotting a genuine error.0 -
Assuming that your modem has network ports - it should have come with a network cable - plug one end into the modem and the other into the computer and work that way.
If you have an original install disc for the wireless card then there should be no problem in you making the exception/ignore, as obviously in the past there was nothing wrong. It points to a false positive.
You could also go to the edimax site and download the approriate/latest driver.0 -
The computer and modem point are a long way away but if it being a fals positive is viable then I'll take that chance.0
-
Hmm, reported as a false positive but still wont install. The other option it gives me is "add the file to the scan exclusion list" but when I click that nothing happens.
How do I tell Avast to allow this installation?
Cheers again,

You don't need the software anyway. Just use the Wireless Zero configuration if XP.0

The computer is very old and not wifi compatible.0

Brand name and model of machine?
Which Operating System?0 -
Dell, not sure of model but uses Vista - is that the OS?. It says Optiplex 755 on it if that helps.
But does anyone know how I get avast to let the programme run?0
