This is how developers are suppose to do things now. The affordable housing and private housing should be all mixed together which should stop the us and them mentality

Thankfully planners have abandoned the idea of massive council estates which would eventually turn into giant sink estates like certain areas of london

I live in a new build expensive flat (rented) where one of the buildings is HA. Police have been called a couplw of times, break ins have occured in the bike parking, they pee in the lift, sh@t in the bin store, litter the playground, lit a fire, about 15-20 kids defaced the property. We just say thank goodness we are renting and are moving out soon but if i had bought this place i certainly wouldnt be happy about the mess the HA tennants cause

Not suprised you want to move, just be thankful you didnt buy a house in the soon to be sink hole

Most new build developments will have some affordable housing on them as a requirement to gain planning. Not all, but most, certainly the large developments. People with mortgages can also be unsociable neighbours and it is wrong and dangerous to make generalizations about people who live in affordable housing. I am quite appalled at some of the comments on this thread

There are several comments on here that are not generalisations but fact or actual experience.
I had a nightmare and the HA occupants were disgraceful.
  • I understand Kensington and Chelsea Council are looking at putting their statuatory HA houses in Peterborough

I spent a year renting an ex LA flat privately in the East End, surrounded by Bengalis in social housing. No one drank, you could have heard a pin drop after 9pm and the teenagers were polite and respectful, encouraged to study hard, and respect people older than them.

In fact the only people who caused any problems on the estate were the few white kids, and the mostly white estate over the road was a nightmarish no go zone of feral, bafflingly vicious youths, asbo behaviour, and alcoholic unemployable Wayne and Waynettas.

You really can't judge people by whether they are an ethnic minority or not.

But you just did. What an !!!!.
  • I'm not ashamed to admit I don't want lower echelon scum living next door to me, however you dress it up. Some of these tenants are respectable, yes, but law of averages say I'm not will to lose future resale value, to the silent "cowards" who won't buy my house, but will go on to proclaim that "they grew up with street kids", and "they're my best friends".

    Hypocrisy is suffocating on here.
