I didn't make a judgement I simply asked what it was. If it has to be announced by the home builder then i assumed that it would be something that could potentially have an effect on my house!?

thank you Thrugelmir, after a hard day trying to place a battered young mother in a safe environment I needed that to restore my faith in the human race

    Now who's judging.

If it as a housing association to rent, possible. All depends who gets in there.
  • This is a question I was going to post. a development we have seen has shown affordable housing. when we asked what sort was told by the local council it would be rentals. the council will allocate families with the highest score of needs and the families will pay the rent to a management company. The lease they sign will be for a minimum of a year.

why should it have an effect on when you sell, the houses are being bought just the same as yours ,

whoever buys them has to get a mortgage just the same as you ,and has to pass strict criteria to even apply

it is a scheme to help low income family's get on the property ladder, they own a good proportion of the house,

I don't hear these kind of comments about shared ownership schemes or equity loan schemes

OP and any one else if you are in England and affordable housing means something different to herein Wales then I am sorry, but please read what this scheme is before making judgement

witchy - I understand that the poster was also asking about it possibly being for social housing and this is another matter as no mortgage is needed.

I was bought up and lived in council housing throughout my childhood. I can honestly say that most people in the area cared about where they lived and to a point looked after it. There were of course the exceptions and sadly thats all it takes one bad house.

We looked at a house recently on the edge of a social housing estate and sadly after a drive round the estate decided it was not for us.

Generally if social housing is integrated then according to the so called experts the area is less likely to become a slum, hence why they mix them in. Also if you surround yourself with misery and dispair its quite hard to be happy and well adjusted.:o
  • some HA tenants are good some are bad it's pot luck. You can't generalise them all as good or bad. You will find that HA's will taken on people who have been booted from there council house as much as families who can't get a council house at all and have applied for HA
  • In our area - the new homes are initially allotted by the council to families and then passed over to a management company. These homes are brand new and just hope they go to worthy families!!!!

    Hi there.

Was just wondering if some people could possibly offer me some insight. My wife and I have found a Taylor wimpy 3 bed detached new build in a very big development close to sheffield where we are looking to buy which we are very keen on.

After looking closer at the site plan I've noticed that the building next to is is going to be 2, 2 bed semi detached affordable housing houses. As I'm a first time buyer I'm not 100% sure what exactly this means and my quick search on google didn't bring me an immediate answer so thought I would ask here. Can anyone shed any light?

I'm not so much of a snob that it would stop me buying the house but I would like to at least understand what affordable housing is and what it effect it could potentially have on me and my family in the future. I also know how sales work and wondered if this may potentially give me some extra room for negotiation??

    Thanks

I share your concerns. I've just bought a new build 3 bedroom detached and a couple of streets away there is 'part ownership' housing - chav magnet, I dare say.

This doesn't work. Introduce misery and the whole area gets dragged downhill rather than the miserable bits going uphill.
