Hi i hope someone can help.
I took out a mobile rolling monthly contract with orange for a new phone via phones for you.
For the last three months the bills have been around 200 for a contract of £8! each month i ring find out why they have taken so much money, get the money back for my bank and finely after three months cancelled my DD.
I was told last month that it was due to "delivery reports" after checking and finding out that she did not get delivery reports orange said they would "recalculate" which they did not - they just sent me another bill for 200 this month.
I spoken to someone who actually does their job she explained that it could just be a small tick by the text message or the time it was sent. She talked us through turning it off. As both my husbands phone and mine have the same "delivery receipt" as my daughters phone we didnt realise what it was, as we dont get charged.
Orange have offered £40 toward the bill but as im unemployed i cannot afford nor should i think i should be paying for a service i did not sign up to.
Any advice as to who i approach to pay this bill? The phone is Xeperia U can i approach phones for you for compensation as its looking like the phone comes with this turned on? or is there something i can do to get orange to wipe the bill for me?

its in oranges terms about delivery reportsDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

... nor should i think i should be paying for a service i did not sign up to....
That said, have you actually checked the bills for the last 3 months?
Text delivery reports cost just 1p at Orange. If the charge is really for the reports, your daughter must be texting full time 24/7 to send 20000 texts p.m.
BTW, the box you need to untick is in the generall settings of the texting app. See 'menu' in this app.0 -
Delivery reports on the new plans are 2p each.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Who did then?

No i havent seen the bills They have said its delivery reports. I have been with orange for about 6 years this has never happened before with any other phone.
I certainly have never said or signed for "delivery reports" i signed up to unlimited texts blah blah blah as far as im concerned someone has conned me out of a lot of money and i want to know who is ultimately responsible for not making me aware this service was "opt out".0 -
The t&c - but nobody reads them. Maybe your "other phones" weren't set to produce message delivery reports; I turn mine off on Orange contracts and would certainly know if I were being charged when I shouldn't be. That said - presumably you mean £200 extra - you'd have to send 10,000 texts even at 2p to run up the bill.0

BTW, I hope you realise that by cancelling your DD you most likely have trashed your credit history.0 -
You're unemployed, short of money, getting phone bills of £200 (instead of £8) a month for the last 3 months, but 'haven't seen the bills'?
Am I missing something? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
This issue has been going on for three months - the total disputed bill is £262. I have paid the real amount I owe each month via card. Many phone calls to orange and they wont help figure out what is going on - it was only a few nights ago that someone with half a brain cell and that wanted to help got the issue sorted.
I haven't seen the bills as I wont pay more money for paper billing and orange wont help me sort out the fact that I cant get onto the online billing area. As long as my bills are what I expect there isn't really an issue.
Point :1 why haven't orange helped me when this issue first arose? why has it taken four months of me ringing them asking whats going on? If they helped me identify and turn this feature off after the first incorrect bill I wouldn't be so !!!!ed.
2: I did not want, did not sign up for nor even knew about delivery reports. whilst I understand this is not oranges problem, this is surely p4u for not telling me the phone came with this turned on or Sonys for having it set to default "on". P4u know about the phones and contracts they are selling therefore if they should know this feature is going to be turned on and therefore rack up charges that are extra to the contract.
how the hell is this ever my problem?
TBH they can sing for the money and if it ruins my credit history it doesn't matter. I don't use credit much and its only for 6 years. Customers should not be treated in this manner its basically theft at its most legal.0 -
Amazing. You'll be unemployed for at least six years if you think like this so I guess six years of wrecked credit won't matter.
1) It's YOUR responsibility, not Orange's. That's why it's assumed that at 18 you are a responsible adult. If Orange's on-line billing isn't working (and I have been in that situation) you can make a formal complaint (mine was ignored) and then complain to CISAS after 8 weeks. There is a small possibility that they may find in your favour since you didn't have access to free billing (in my case Orange simply accepted my claim in full without EVER addressing my complaint). Like it or not, you DID sign up to delivery report charges along with a lot of other nasties which you haven't yet taken advantage of. Otherwise, you're !!!!ed.
2) Absolutely not the dealer's fault. If you don't start taking responsibility your problems will escalate, not be passed on to other parties.0
