Dealing with Police

If your mum's mental health is not good has a Lasting power of attorney been granted and if so to whom.

Your mother may have asked the police to speak to your son rather than you because she knows of your illness and rightly thought for you to deal with the police could cause you significant mental harm.

Never ring the police when you are after updates etc always go to the station and speak to the person dealing with the case that way you get the answers you want there and then.

Has I stated before you feel that the police have let you down therefore go to the police station, ask to speak to the duty inspector and make a complaint. You will be surprised how quickly you get the information you want.

Has for the doctor releasing the body for cremation, didnt you say a coroner was involved? If so its the coroner who releases the body. I do agree with the police though that once the body was photographed and all the paper work done there is no need to keep the body any longer. Murder cases have been highlighted for causing double distress on families because a defendent has the right to have their own Post Mortem carried out which means until they have caught the person and asked them if they require this they wont release a body. The government thanks to public pressure have started to give victims more help and closure. Therefore the quicker the family can have their late loved ones buried or cremated the better it is for the family.

One final point has your son is liasing with the police can you not get the information you seek from your son? Dont let this get you down too much and if you are feeling depressed may I respectfully suggest you see your GP

Yes you can definitely complain about the Inspector. In fact you should do if you haven't been called as promised.

A call to 101 (the non emergency number) is advisable.

Tell the operator you wish to complain and why. This will create a log of the incident which will be referred to the on duty sergeants and inspectors. One of them should call you - even if it's just to say "We're aware of complaint, I can't personally help but we will contact XXX..."

That should be enough to get some response.

The inspector called me back when my mh support worker was here. The casde is still ooen as a criminal investigation. Pity they have not let my 80 yr old mother (spouse) know, and had me posting on here to find out. It was only under advice from this thread, me phoning asking if the case was still open. who is the family liason offices, why have you not taken a statement from me and my ex and my daughter.

Inspector said to me 'You are not a witness'- I argued then put him onto MH worker. I got em going for asking for a FOI request.

I cannot understand why I am not a witness, ifI was party to what happened in the week before my dad was admitted to hospital.

I can only leave my comments up for a few hours, then will delete as advised on here.
