New ballcock float arm - bend straight one or buy an angled one?

Hi,
As per the title, I replaced the ballcock and float arm (the old valve was leaking and the arm/ball were in poor condition) with a straight one (reviews were good and I didn't give it much thought), however I have an issue in that despite adjusting it as much as possible it still allows the water level to go above the height of the overflow.
So in short; do I bend the existing straight arm or buy a 'proper' angled one instead?
We are looking to get a combi-boiler soon so it doesn't have to last for another 10 years of anything.
EDIT: This is for a header tank, not a toilet (in case that makes any difference)

No, pure brute force and bend the boo gar. make sure that when you have done it, that the water level is stable and well under the overflow pipe. Also if this is in the loft, make sure it is well insulated.
While your in the loft, you could check your insulation, and leaks in the roof as well. maye save money and time later.0 -
The professional answer is fit the right one.
The MSE answer is bodge it and bend it.
