Well our faculty head is going on maternity leave in February. The Headteacher asked for expressions of interests in the post before the holidays. I was called to his office today and told I am the only interested member of the Faculty which does not surprise me as we have a few probationers (NQTs) filling posts created by retirements. My salary will be £43,479 for the duration of the mat leave up from £34,200. Not sure what my monthly take home will be.
I think the staff in my subject will be fine with me doing the job (drama) but one of the older ladies in the music department might not be too pleased but she only works part time so I think I can manage.

  • Salary for my acting Faculty Head post should bring in £2500 a month. My colleague has decided to take a year out for maternity so I will likely be in this post until February 2015. I hope that I will be able to start a decent mortgage overpayment fund for when my fixed rate ends.

Things all going nicely, been saving the extra from my temporary promotion covering a maternity leave. (have £1200 in extra salary savings account)

It will be Feb 2015 before my colleague returns and she is considering going down to 3 or 4 days when she returns for a while so there is always hope!

It is a faculty head of music and drama and I am getting on well with everyone bar one of the music teachers who finds fault with everything! Due to retirements it is now quite a young faculty and I am lucky to have good colleagues.

In the third week of our school summer holidays now north of the Border. My colleague has decided to stay on maternity leave for the full academic year and will return to work in August 2015! This means I will have another year as acting-Faculty Head which is good for both money and experience.

The older lady in music who was picking fault with everything has now reduced to 1.5 days in our school and a day in a primary school so I can manage that.

Debt wise... tempted by a new car...! Even though I was only doing a few thousand miles a year when I previously had a car. But every time I hear an Arnold Clark advert on the radio I think.... oh I'd like a car!
