Your Chinese looks amazing Skintdad. Where did you get the little pancake things to make the spring rolls? I have never seen them. I told dh about your fakeaway idea and he loves it. I think we may be starting soon. We have had our 2nd LBM recently and need a real kick up the bum to take things in hand. Cutting some money off the shopping bill seems a good way to start. Thanks for the inspirational posts as always.
    January 2019 Credit card 1 £1241.22
    Credit Card 2 £5641.40
    Next £1304.06
    Very £2033.02

    Total debt: £10229.70

Thanks, it was really tasty! The Rice Flour Pancakes were from Morrisons, 74p for 10!

You should definitely give the fakeaways a go. It will save you so much money and its fun to create something that you would normally order in.

  • I just posted on my blog. Its called "On Reflection"

You can find it here if you are interested.

Over the weekend my lovely sister bought us a slow cooker and today is the first day of using it. I am making Spag Bol and I'm batch cooking 4 x the amount so it will do use for a few meals. It should save us a bit on the electricity bill at the same time! :)

Thank you, I wish I had your positive state of mind.

As for Morrisons, I don't think I'd have been so honest. However, I do think you are a credit to yourself for being honest. :)

You have got a positive state of mind, you just occasionally forgot you have it.

So Morrisons come back to me and said "Keep it & enjoy" :):)

Skintmum is going to pop in there this evening after her cleaning job to see if she can pick up a turkey joint. They are massive and on offer for £3 so hopefully I can pop into the slow cooker and make a nice turkey curry, :):)

  • hi Skintdad,
just wanted to say that I have subscribed to your diary, it is very well written, hopefully you can make some money from your writing in the near future.

I am fortunate that other than my mortgage I don't have any other debt so I can't really imagine what you are living through, but your positivity is inspirational and I wish you well in your DF quest, I have no doubt you will achieve it.

From your SOA, I notice you pay £30 OD fee and wondered if you would be able to negotiate with them to stop this? If you are repaying £1 a month but £30 is being added in fees, it doesn't make sense. I am sure you have looked at this, but just a thought.

Will follow your diary with interest.

In regards to our OD, this is for our current account and one of the first bills we are aiming to clear. We actually get charge £1 per day but its easier to say £30 per month. we are aiming to clear this one by Christmas!

    Hi PWPS,

Thanks for reading and subscribing :)

Even though we are in debt I decided from the beginning that nothing was going to get me down, it seems to be working and my positive attitude has got me through so far.

Just had our first dinner from the slow cooker, OMG!! It was delicious! We had spaghetti bolognese, only cheap mince from Asda but after being in the pot for 8 hours it melted in our mouths!

Goodness knows how much money it saved but I did cook a large amount so there is enough for lunch tomorrow and another dinner in the week. I actually cannot see us using the oven much more if I can cook food using it. I am just kicking myself we didn't get one before hand.

Skintmum has next week off as annual leave so I am seeing if I can get a weeks work somewhere. I have sent my CV off to a few agencies but not heard anything yet.

After the weekend and having so many people read my blog I have decided to really concentrate on making it the best it can be. I would really like for it to grow into something I could earn an income from and not just pin money, a real wage.

I really enjoy writing and I am learning so much about being frugal and savvy with money (wish I had always done this) that I think I could help others through my blog. I have already got a good few money saving articles on there as well as my fakeaways which I will carry on doing every Saturday. Along with my debt diary I think it makes an appealing read, well I hope it does?

I have got such a long way to go with clearing our debt and so many lessons to learn along the way, it seems a shame if I keep it all to myself don't you think?

Something exciting has also happened in the last week which I can't say too much about but it will mean a lot more coverage for my blog in the new year.

As I said previously and I will keep on saying it until I am blue in the face. Debt is just a mindset. Change the mindset and change your life, one step at a time.

  • Hi skintdad, slow cookers are fantastic, I hae had mine for years and love it to bits and would be lost without it. I use mine to make soup, rice pud, stews and they all turn out lovely.

A nice soup that doesn't cost a lot that I make in mine is a tomato and red lentil soup, I bung in tin toms, couple of carrots, onion, herbs, stock cube, garlic, water and a handful of red lentils and leave it to cook for the day, whizz it up with a hand blender, add a small splash of milk and you have a very yummy filling soup, If we are feeling well off that week I grate some cheese on top when serving, delish.
