Baillif opened my door and walked in.

Lucky it was only the bayliff who let himself in and not the local thief or rapist??!!
Maybe it was just wishful thinking
In all seriousness...i'm glad i was able to get it sorted out. I just feel for those who are maybe at work, or out at the doctors, or any other situation like that and feel that as long as the day is called "Friday" it's ok to pay it on that day at any time...if i say i will call a friend on friday i call her on friday...could be 9am could be 7pm...do you see what i'm getting at?0 -
No, you're not getting on your high horse - you just expected them to operate the way you would. But they're not coming round to meet a friend - they're on commission, so they're not going to be particularly interested in sensible, mannerly behaviour. :rolleyes:Rain_is_Insane wrote: »GRRRRRRRR the property was "accessible" because i was home...he just didn't knock loudly enough. And what about the fact i had already made the arrangements to pay today? I didn't realise that "today" in a baliffs world was "anytime he can get here" he didn't explain that
And just for the record when i came downstairs the dog was licking him to death !!!! not the point though
It's all paid now so i'm not worried about them coming back i was just angry about the, while lawful apprently, unethical way they did it. Or am i just getting on my high horse here?
The fact you'd made arrangements to pay today wouldn't have made a scrap of difference to them except that it got them a date to be at your door. They must hear "I'll pay on X day" loads of times, plus supposing you had been ill, or the cashpoint hadn't been working? I'm not defending them, but they turned up with the intention of getting money or goods, & leaving the door open gave the opportunity to choose which. Still, at least it's sorted now, so they won't be back.

Maybe I am not politically correct enough to comment, however I do believe if I had came down and saw someone in my hall way univited and unwelcome I may well have punched him, ended up getting Police in and up in court, yep, stupid, but probably inevitable.
Competition wins. 2 festival camping tickets worth 310, case of grants whisky 74.

LOL my sentiments exactly...but i owed this money so it was partly my fault. The only thing i dispute was the fact they came in to my house without contacting me to say "hi do you have the money yet"? I gave him my phone number0 -

My main concern is that you were in the house on your own and just getting out of the bath... I would've screamed like a banshee if I'd see a big bloke stood in my hallway thinking he was some kind of rapist or murderer!!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
Que sera, sera.

They called round last week to my new address and dropped a letter through the door. I called them straight away (i'm recently debt free and want to stay that way) and arranged to pay in full in a weeks time. The pay date being today. Not a problem with them at all they said. I told the bailiff i would call him when i had been to the bank so he could come and collect the money. Today, i went for a bath before heading in to town to get the money and came downstairs to find the bailiff stood in my hallway on his mobile giving a van driver directions to my house. I asked him what the hell he thought he was doing and he said "well you didn't answer the door" so i said no i was in the bath and didn't hear it, and what are you doing in my house? He told me because the door was unlocked he had every right to come in and take my things (it's a double glazing door and yes i should have locked it before going for a bath but i live in a tiny street where nothing ever happens and never expected anyone to walk in) When i said to him that i hadn't been to the bank yet and had arranged to call him when i had been so what was his problem, he replies "i'm only in the area for the next 15 minutes and you're the one who owes me money" I asked him to wait untill i had been to the bank and he told me he wasn't leaving my house and would wait inside. Fortunately my husband came home for his work break at this point and managed to get him to wait outside. I locked everything up and went to the bank, paid him his money and he left. I called his company to see if what he did was right and they heard my dog barking in the backround. The answer from the operator was "i can hear you have a dog, you're well protected, whats your problem" Now i know that technically by moving house i did break the walking possesion order...but....as soon as they contacted me again i arranged to pay in full. What i want to know is, can he just open my door and let himself in? or does he have to have someone with him like the police or something. I'm also angry that i had a payment arrangement with him but because he couldn't wait he had already decided to remove my goods. I feel like crying and screaming all at the same time. Is it worth the paper it's written on putting in a complaint or is he totally right in what he did?
Hi, can i ask you what a walking order agreement is please? my hours at work have been reduced and i dont qualify for benefits as i fall betwen the criteria for hours worked as regards working tax credit (18 as opposed to the 30 required) i have fallen behind with utility bills payment plans and dont know what else to do, i have now decided to sell my house and pay off the mortgage to give me some leaway until my working hrs increase but in the months that this might take to sell im obviously concerned that bailiffs will be sent to me. thanks in advance0 -
I swore a lot...but when they have that right to come in and he showed me identification, what do i do??? If i was wearing more than a towel i would have hit him with something but then i would have been charged !!!!!0

Contact the companies involved...if you can reach an agreement a possession order will not be enforced. Thats only when (someone as stupid as me) ignores a debt till the last possible moment and leaves the people no option0 -
in the nicest possible way I think that maybe the lady doth protest a tiny tiny bit too much ..lets see
-how was it that it got as far as bailiffs in the first place?
-just happened to move house and forgot about the bailiffs
-arranged for one or more strange men to call on Friday but quite happy to leave the front door unlocked and have a bath
-makes no attempt to have the money ready in advance
-considers it quite reasonable to pay up to 7pm on friday
I think you could make things a lot easier for yourself but there you go0 -

Figured i would get a post like this......ok here goes
It got as far as the bailiffs because of benefits (loss of job, moving house and unreasonable people) I then forgot about this debt when i moved....it happens
Most people who have double glazing front doors and have nothing to hide (i thought i was debt free) leave them open (bear in mind i had forgotton about this debt from 10 years ago after moving house several times)
I had arranged for the money to be ready today (doesn't everyone have a bath or shower before presenting themselves at a bank counter or anywhere else)?
The reason the money was not "ready in advance" is i told him i get paid on the 15th of every month and would have to visit the bank for a withdrawel.
Can i just point out that this thread is for advice not critisizm?0
