Hi
So logged on to my talk talk account and they offered to send me a new router which would improve my speed.
Received and plugged in, old router belkin 54g speed was 3.8mbps, new router 5.1mbps at first test but every test since then its been 0.5mbps.
Plugged old router back in and back up to 3.8mbps.
Any ideas why this may be the case?
Ill call them later if needed but would rather not.

Once you disconnect, it can take upto 10 days to resynch the line at the optimum speed.
So I'd suggest you give the new one a bit longer. No free lunch, and no free laptop

You can contact them via the TalkTalk forum. Can be 2-5 days before a TT rep can reply but it was another user who solved my issue. Reps can also check lines/connections for problems but you do have a wait.
I had the same problem after installing a new router. I was able to identify that it was a wireless issue. Turns out in my case I needed to change a setting (instead of mixed wireless mode G/N/B I needed G only) by logging into the router online which another TT forum member told me how to do.
Went from 1 to 11 mbps

If you feel confident enough, Try changing the WiFi channel (if it's over wireless), this made a huge difference on my Plusnet fibre router. It was on auto before and I was only getting about 5mb - 7mb download speeds over wireless. Changed to channel 6, and get about 30mb - 35mb wireless now.0
