What type of mattress topper

Our pocket sprung mattress is only about 18months old, but I am finding it increasingly uncomfortable and getting pressure point pain in my hips and shoulders at night. Have been looking at toppers, but am confused as to which would be best. Dont want latex/memory foam, tried that on last mattress, cooked at night !. Duck feather/down, goosefeather/down or synthetic. Surely with the new microfibre fillings, it would go flat as soon as you laid on it. Is Goosedown/feather better than duck ? thicker the better ? Do you have to deconstruct the bedding everyday to fluff them up ? help please, as I dont want to pay out possibly £100/£150 for a king size and then find its not right.

I have a pocket sprung mattress with a latex top and don't find it too hot at all. I believe there are some out there now which are supposed to be cooler.
I haven't tried a separate topper, but my friend had a feather one. Had to deconstruct the bedding each day and fluff the topper, otherwise all the feathers ended up at the bottom by the end of the week.
She got rid after a few months.0 -
We have a duck feather and down topper which is really soft and luxurious - has retained a good thickness, just needs a shake every now and again. Our son as a wool fleece one - not very thick but a nice topper to cover mattress and soften a bit. Very reasonably priced at DAPW and often have discount codes going around.0

I have been looking at the wool ones, but they dont look very thick so would they be soft enough to relieve the pressure ?0

Have you turned it over? Or rotated it round if it's a one sided mattress. Should be done every month!Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0

Have done it regularly. Hubby is a stickler for mattress turning. Every week for at least the first 9 months, then at least once a month after.. Its a no turn one,0

Not sure, we have a soft/medium mattress and the wool topper is fine. The duck feather and down is wonderful on son's bed with a medium mattress and does not go flat.0 -
Reggie, what thickness is your wool topper ? and the duck feather one as well thanks0

As I grabbed a bargain £5 new duvet for winter a couple of weeks ago via a post on this site and the old winter quilt was getting a bit thread bare I put it in an old duvet cover placed on bed, cover as normal with fitted sheet and hey presto new topper. Will definitely see the winter out and the on to the dogs for their bed after that.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

Really cant see the wool ones being thick enough to relieve the pressure point pains. Am leaning towards a goose/duck/ feather & down one I think.
Have just last night put an old duvet on the mattress to try out. Its an old type one thats quite a dense fibre fill, not like the lovely light microfibre modern ones. Will give this a try and see how I get on for a few days.0
