It works ok on my laptop, so it is working.
Very disappointed. In other words you have to buy a smart tv.
Will bring it back, as I can't think of anything else I would use it for0 -

Why do you say that? (your link doesn't work) Are you saying that the dongle that Samsung sell to do that job just doesn't work? Or is it that the BD 5300 isn't actually wifi capable - I've been searching and I've seen conflicting information.0 -
pepper - you're being very secretive with your model numbers, I don't know why! You haven't told us what dongle exactly you bought, it would need to be a fairly specific one to your Blu-Ray. Let us know.
And to avoid further disappointment, what smart features exactly are you expecting?
And you do understand that you can plug your BluRay player into your router for the same (actually better) Smartness that WiFi will get you?0 -

Clearly you didn't buy the Samsung Dongle, as that wouldn't work with your laptop.
Even if you bought the Samsung Dongle, it wouldn't work with the BluRay player.
You don't need to buy a Smart TV, to have Smart TV.
Just like you don't have to buy a TV with built in FreeView module in order to recieve FreeView channels, you TV does not need a Smart module built in, in order to act as a Smart TV.
It's easy to buy a separate box.
You can connect your BluRay play to the Internet and play the content via your TV, but the BluRay Player may have access to relatively limited content.
Test it with the Ethernet cable above and if you are happy with the function and want to take it wireless, you can buy the device to which I linked.
But you would be better off simply buying the NOW TV box for £9.99
It is already Wireless capable and will turn your TV in to a Smart TV.
Word of advice.... Answer the questions that you are asked, regardless of your frustration with the issue.
Otherwise you just annoy the people who are trying to help you.
We still don't know the model number of your TV.0 -

The BD E5300 needs a Universal Wireless-N to Ethernet Internet Adapter to gain Wireless capability. The dongle will not work. Other models in the range may be WiFi capable, but the BD E5300 was at the bottom of the range and does not have the capability.
Belkin have a similar unit here for £24.99.
But I would choose NetGear over Belkin.0 -
Thanks everyone. Will get it sorted.
I am not being secretive about the model numbers, its just that in the user manual for the blu ray, it quoted the model number of the dongle, so that is why I got it.
BD- D5300 FOR THE BLU RAY
AND WIS09ABGN FOR THE LAN WIFI0 -
All together now -
#"What a difference a 'D' makes...." !!!
You are correct, the BD-D5300 appears to be 'WiFi-ready' and it looks like you do have the correct dongle.
It's successor, the BD-E5300 - that I think Nifty has been refering to - is not WiFi-ready and only has ethernet. Crafty !!!!!!s, Samsung.
Set up is done via the BluRay players Network Settings menu. You'll need your wireless router's passphrase (Wireless key).
If you don't know what this is then you'll need to tell us the make and model of your router.0 -
I have the pass key.0

Now you see why you should quote the model numbers in the first place.
That model has a Firmware Update to be installed. Actually from late July this year. But if you have never connected the thing to the Internet, it would not have got the chance to update.
Even after you download and install all of the updates, you should check the version of Firmware, as you may have to install the update manually via USB.
Firmware updates are to improve the performance of the machine.0
