Turning Boiler Flu to go through another wall

We are in the process of ordering a conservatory and we've just been told that the conservatory wall has to be a minimum of 300mm from the boilers Flu Pipe. Looking on top of the boiler, it would seem that the Flu may be able to be turned to go through a different external wall.

Is this possible in theory or is there a reason it's going the way it is?

Also, could anyone advise on a ballpark figure for this kind of job?

Thanks

Have you checked the manufacturers instructions with regards to the flue location?

Will it discharge by an opening windor or door?
This could be why the 300mm is needed....
If so can you move the door/window.

If it's just a case of an internal corner, on modern condensing boilers you can get away with 25mm, but without knowing the boiler details it is hard to say :o
  • On the theory of turning the flue through 90degrees, this may be an option, again depending on the boiler make and model, a new flue may be needed if still available.

The main problem would be clearances, and would turning the flue through 90degrees discharge the flue towards the neighbours property?

Lots of problems with condensing boilers, and flue discharge, this could be sorted with a plume management kit though.

It may be easier to modify your current flue and add a length of extension pipework. Ours has a 500mm vertical extension which takes the plume away from our window and next doors extractor fan outlet.

Thanks for the replies... The boiler is an Ideal Isar boiler so not sure if that makes a difference.

I've not checked the manufacturers instructions but will see if I can locate the manual and take a look.

The conservatory company have said that the regulation is you need a minimum of 300mm clearance otherwise the gas board have power to turn off our gas supply.

Boiler is an Ideal Isar boiler and currently the flu comes out of the top of the boiler, has a right angle going through the rear wall of the house. I was hoping that the same flu and just be turned round 90 degrees.

The side wall of our house is next to our driveway and the house next door on that side is about 15 meters away.

The conservatory company did actually say this may be a possibility and it may well be, but they said it depends whether the boiler just relies on air pushing the gas through the flu or whether it's fan assisted.

the flue won't be long enough so will need a new one, isar start saving your pennies cause it won't be long before it needs replacing
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

I have found a manual here but you need to make certain it is for your boiler....

    http://idealheating.com/downloads/manuals/203319_inst.pdf

Page 8, there is a table that deals with flue distances, you haven't said if there is an opening into the new conservatory near to the boiler flue, if there isn't and there is nothing else too near to the boiler flue you will get away with 25mm from the conservatory.

Again you need to make sure it is the right manual for your boiler, or find your own manual.

The only reason it goes through the wall it does is because it is both easiest and cheapest.
Only now that you wish to make changes to the rest of the property does it become an issue.

Get a quote from your gas Plumber.

Hot gas fumes 25mm from a plastic conservatory is acceptable????? not doubting your info RockinP, but I think commonsense wasn't on the agenda when they wrote that.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

If it's in the manual it can be installed at those distances....
Agreed if it is possible to be further away then probably best...
But, these modern condensing boilers have plastic flue pipes, and the flue gases are so cool you can hold your hand in front of the outlet, with just a slight warming of your hand, so it won't harm a conservatory.

Even when they're running in non-condensing mode?
