Medium sized car?
Ok, so i'm thinking of getting a new car- probably not brand new but a nearly new or poss 1 or 2 years old.
Anyone got any recommendations?
I was thinking that as it will be for the wife to drive when I'm in the other, it will need to be decent on short journeys too!
what's everyone think of the A1? BMW 1? Hyundai I30? Kia Cee'd?

Probably the Hyundai or Kia, "luxury" brands demand "luxury" running costs.
AND definitely avoid diesel for short journeys. http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-buyers-guide/cbg_fuel.html“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Audi A1 all the way, depreciation on them is fantastic.0

You can buy a 2 year old BMW 1 series with around 20K miles on the clock for half the price of a new one, letting someone else bear the huge depreciation.
If you buy from a BMW dealer you have a full year AUC Warranty.
Running costs are not so high as folks think.
If it's for low annual mileage then do get a petrol engined one.
A pleasure to drive - makes me smile every time I start the engine.0 -
That's great thanks.
Do you have one?
It would be good to hear from ppl who have one? or have any other suggestions?

I have a 320D but my daughter has a petrol 1 series.

Bear in mind that any forum will be full of folks with problems rather that the folks who are happy.
A bit like MSE eh?

It's your money and as you say your Mrs will be driving it, snob hat on or not, the Kia and Hyundai are not going to have the same sort of ride quality as the Beemer or Audi, whether you feel that is worth the extra premium is up to you, they are all great cars and will serve a purpose.0 -
I cannot comment on the BMW but I think the Audi A1 fells very 'small', although the drive & quality is good. The I30 is the better of the I range &, I believe, a slightly more solid drive. The Kia, slightly wishy washy but, then, quite cheap & comes with its 7 year warranty.
You could try Seat if you like Audi, maybe a later Ibiza or Altea?, VW, polo or Golf... A late Skoda Fabia is quite a nice solid drive (if you don't mind the make) ...0 -
Surprised no one has mentioned Ford yet, Fiesta or Focus Ecoboost if your wife doesn't do more than average miles, just take the quoted MPG figures with a pinch of salt.0
