We went to Brighton for a night and left our cats alone with lots of food bowls and water bowls and they were absolutely fine. They didn't even seem like they noticed anything was amiss when we got back.:p

I tried one of these many years ago, unfortunately one of the furries quickly worked out how to open it (by pawing at the wheel thingy until the notch lines up in the open position) :rotfl:so had to abandon that idea.

wonderful! :T that's why we love 'em!!!!!

Some automatic catfeeders come with a pack underneath which you can freeze in advance, so that you can leave wet catfood out over the weekend. I would second the the thoughts of others that Saturday morning to Sunday evening is entirely fine in terms of leaving cats unsupervised. It is also worth pointing out that your average grown cat sleeps 19 hours a day, so they will only be awake and missing you for 6 hours over the 2 days!

Have to agree with the majority. We have had cats for many years, and have left them for 2 nights a few times, and we leave them for 1 night at least 3 times a year. Any longer is a bit tricky because of the litter. But yes, you can leave cats, they sleep a lot, and as someone said above ^^^ they barely blink when you get back!

They are not clingy, needy animals, and although they thrive in a loving and affectionate environment, they can happily go a couple of days without human intervention.

As the others have said though; lots of dry food and at least 2 bowls of water for each cat. (In case one gets knocked over.) And put fresh litter out before you go.

Over the years I often left my cats alone for up to 2 nights with wet food in an automatic feeder with an ice pack, plenty of dry food and water. As they had a cat flap they didn't need litter trays. They were absolutely fine and if I was you I wouldn't worry.

Now I only have one elderly 19 year old cat I do prefer someone to pop in to feed him and just check he is ok, for my own peace of mind more than anything.

I believe cats are much happier in their own environment and would always choose to leave them at home if at all possible rather than put them through the stress of a cattery - not to mention the car journey to the cattery!

Leaving just dry food isn't plain evil at all!!!

We sometimes go away overnight and leave the kitties with plenty of fresh water, heaps of dry food and a couple of clean litter trays. We often leave the TV or radio on so they feel more comfortable, and if we know it's going to be cold we put the heating on a timer to keep them nice and warm. We leave them a pouch each onto of the biccies and then they have loads of biccies to get them through.

They don't even realise we've been away and react just as they would if we've been out at work all day!
