ASDA Edmonton Green complete melt down

It seems “selling is [the] universal responsibility” at the inconvenience of the customer.
Had the most appalling experience at the Edmonton Green branch.
The main issue (that day) seemed that the store had NO carrier bags. AT ALL.
You heard me. None.
This is not the first time this has happened at this branch either.
Not only was no effort made to tell customers BEFORE they made their purchases, the staff stood around like it wasn't their problem.
Not once did I heard "sorry for the inconvenience". Or anything that seemed like a few polite words directed to confused customers.
This made the situation much worse.
Considering that the store was not that busy, I couldn't understand why the queues were ridiculously long at 8pm.
There was one manned checkout. Only half the self service machines were working.
I saw 3 members of staff standing around watching from a distance.
As I was leaving with my bin bag of shopping (literally i was the last customer to be given something to put my shopping in) I saw customers resorting to shouting across the shop floor for service at the self checkouts.
I thought about complaining, but in the end just wanted to get out as soon as possible. Managers always seem to be MIA in this store.
Just wanted to know if this is common in ASDA store? or it is just my local branch that is under manned, incompetent, and rude.

People go to Asda because it is cheap, if you want great customer service there are other stores. Aldi and Lidl are better value, and their staff polite.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Head office had probably charged the store 5p each for them.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

Our local asda and tesco have both run out of carrier bags in the past and they just gave out the expensive ones - I managed to pick up a collection of about half a dozen Orla Kiely bags in one visit.0

Oh dear me, the store has run out of free carrier bags - what are we to do?
How about - TAKE YOUR OWN BAGS!
Do you also complain like this when they run out of toilet paper?
(I don't suggest taking your own here though : )0 -

Oh dear. Someone's rather lacking on the intelligence front today, aren't you darling?
Since OP doesn't mention their psychic abilities, it's almost certain they didn't know before leaving home that the store didn't have any carrier bags.0 -
Well what I would have done in this circumstance was tell them to cancel the transaction and walk out, leaving them to waste the stock.
Oh and Id prob go back in get a lot more perishable stock and repeat the process again demanding carrier bags or cancel the transaction.
But then again Id prob use my own rucksack and sainsburys quick scan boxes (the ones I got from years ago when they trialled a scan & save thing which was a complete flop.)Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

Thumb.. have you not seen the press, the media etc.
take your own bags to the supermarket and stop using disposable ones. Think of the fishies....0 -
I call disgruntled/recently sacked employee on this one.0

It does go to show how reliant we have all become on these bags. It's time to start reusing them! Hopefully the charge when it comes in will persuade everyone to do just that.0

I don't work for a supermarket, but I do pop into a couple at least 3 times a week to see the yellow sticker bargains and I see customers buying a Mars bar and shoving that in a carrier bag when they have other bags of shopping. You don't need an entire new carrier bag small items!
Even on self scans, customers fill up the carrier bags then put the bags inside their bags for life. Why?
I have heard of other supermarket chains allowing colleagues from nearby stores to pick up several packs of bags to cover themselves until the delivery arrives and they give the same number of packs of bags back to the 2nd store. Why couldn't Asda do this?
As from the self scans, sometimes the store I visit has 16 self scans - 10 basket ones and 6 with conveyor belts, has only ONE colleague manning them all! With any coupon needing approval, its a joke waiting for them to get assisted. I don't bother with the self scans if I have bought age restricted items or a coupon to use.
Again bring your own bags.0
