sitting at lights with foot on the brakes - why

I only tend to use the handbrake if I am either at the front of the queue at the lights, or if I am queueing for a longer than normal period. If at the back of the queue I rest my foot on the brake.
This is because I don't want the engine switching itself off with ECO and to enable me to crawl forward with other traffic as they gather together.
As far as I am aware, there is no rule of thumb that states you MUST use the handbrake at traffic lights, I tend to be more concerned with those that don't realise what indicators are for, for which there is a rule of thumb.

Looking for something else I came across the following statement in Rule 114 of The Highway Code:In stationary queues of traffic, drivers should apply the parking brake and, once the following traffic has stopped, take their foot off the footbrake to deactivate the vehicle brake lights. This will minimise glare to road users behind until the traffic moves again.0

And the rant is indicative of the attitude. Wonder if it's reflected on the road?
That..would be for me to know, and you to worry about?
Pity for you, I get paid handsomely for my opinions.....!
What do you happen to get paid for?No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
My car has an automatic handbrake - when it is applied the rear brake lights come on.0

Not better than you that's for sure.:(
But then, who is?
No-one I've yet assessed has proven to be free from faults of significance.
But the worrying thing for any professional in the driving industry is the insistence that one sort of driver is 'better' than another.
I am only as good a driver as I am, at the hour,on the day.
So is anyone else reading this forum.
And that is regardless of any training received.....or delivered.
What matters to me is that, when I'm out driving, I cope comfortably with everything that others do...!
I drive within the Law because I understand why those regulations are in place...and they are not there simply to restrict me in any way, either.
It would appear that attitude is of gross inconvenience to others? In which case, they will just have to live with it.No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Err, the highway code is not law, you might want to re-visit that.Be happy...;)0
