sitting at lights with foot on the brakes - why

My DH car is an Insignia, with a PITA electric hand brake.
It takes forever to come on, and doesn't always release, even though Vauxhall say it is working as intended, so I use the brake peddle at lights.0 -

You, Sir, have impeccable taste. Not so sure about your young lady, though. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
InsideInsurance - yes, those examples are both what I would call 'emergency braking systems'.
TrickyWicky - I was responding to the person who came on telling ME to Google it - instead of doing that, could they not provide the evidence? Do I have to provide a page with no results on it?
I still haven't seen any evidence of any car in the UK that has anything other than an emergency braking system, so I stand by what I said.
I don't need to get over myself, and I stand by every word I said.
Still no variable brake lights.
alistairq - I gave many reasons in my post why you should be on your handbrake. Firmly planting your size 11s on the brake will cause fatigue for one. I would also suggest you have a look at what happens to the pedals in a crash in modern cars - hint: you don't want your feet to be on them!0 -

"Emergency braking system" or not, it's still a variable braking system that reacts to the type of pressure applied to the brake pedal. You're original assertion that people are making things up and there's no such thing as pressure sensitive brake lights was clearly wrong and proven so.0 -
Indicative?
Rubbish!
Honest?
Yes!
So, aside from being a bit adrift from DSA requirements if the front vehicle at a red traffic light......in what way does my comment present an issue?
Is the vehicle secure?
Yes!
Will my foot be shifted from the brake if rear-ended?
Not guaranteed in any way, shape or form.
Still....what is not considered is..the handbrake of any vehicle is tested at MoT time, to be...what?
25% efficient?
And..said handbrake works on but two of the many wheels a vehicle might have ??
[certain of my 'professional' vehicles excepted, of course]
Whereas, my foot, nicely planted [size 11 at the moment]....on the brake, is locking every single brake on every single road wheel......
plus, MY observation encompasses both forwards and rearwards all the time.....so..in my car, anyway, I will know if a vehicle is approaching from behind in a manner which represents a threat..
[in my professional capacity, I don't really care how vehicles behind approach the one I'm in..it won't shift, guaranteed! Plus, they don't have crash bars or anything to prevent said errant vehicles from disappearing right underneath....]
So, unlike too many readers on here, my observation skills work overtime, whilst my hands and feet relax.
Can the same be said for you?
From your comments, obviously not?
And the rant is indicative of the attitude. Wonder if it's reflected on the road?0 -

No it hasnt.0 -
Hi, as the Op. I would like to thank all those who read the posts and contributed as well; seems to be split into 2 camps; those who sit and those who use the handbrake. From a money saving pov, sitting with foot on brake pedal will reduce the life expectancy of bulb in terms of hours of operation. So I'm happy to use handbrake when appropriate.0

You must live quite a dull existence because clearly unless you personally witness something, it doesn't exist or happen.
I've no idea how you cope with the news on the TV everyday. How did you cope with the news that man landed on the moon once?
