The earliest references to lanyards dates from 15th century France, during which the word "Lanière" was used to describe a thong or strap apparatus.[4] Later, in the French military, lanyards were used to connect a pistol, sword or whistle (for signalling) to a uniform on a semi-permanent basis. Lanyards were used in situations where there was a good chance of losing the object—commonly by cavalry and naval officers at sea. A well-made pistol lanyard can be easily removed and reattached by the user, but otherwise will stay connected to the pistol whether it is drawn or in a holster. Lanyards later became a more decorative item. A popular reference to holster lanyards is found in the 1966 Spaghetti Western The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, in which one of the film's main characters, Tuco Ramirez, is known to carrying his pistol on a rope cord lanyard. Eli Wallach, the actor who played the part of Tuco, reportedly told director Sergio Leone that it was too difficult to put a pistol into a holster without looking, so Leone put Wallach's pistol on a lanyard.[5]

May I say !!!!!!? You smokin sumthin Tm, or does it just not make sense as I am reading the thread backwards ;)

A new thread and already 20 pages - is there a big glitch on, not shopped properly in over a week so no hope of ever catching up.

my week was dreadful so I need virtual hugs if anyone has spares :)

Eldest child has worked frantically for weeks for interviews for a new work placement - 2 days notice to do a presentation, group interview and then a trip to London. Then she got an email from her boss, all new work placements canceled - she is devastated. It would have meant an extra £4 grand a year and they could have started saving to get married and a house deposit :(

Eldest son went off on his tour on Thursday, 6 months without leave, very miserable to see him go but at least he seems to have good wi fi so we have skyped. Counting the days already.

Worst of all my Dad went into hospital for a weeks investigation, he looked so much better this week, fully awake, eye contact, listening, taking notice and taking part in conversations onWednesday and Thursday. But On Sunday morning he had his porridge and pills and then his breathing changed and he just slipped away before any of us could reach the hospital. So we have a funeral to go to on Tuesday.

Anyway I am trying to regain something like normality, eldest daughter was home for a few days, youngest son home this weekend so at least we have not been on our own.

Sleep seems to the hardest thing to tackle at the moment.

next week will be better I hope.

So sorry to hear about your Father.
When you look back I hope it will be comforting to have those last few conversations as I know he was severely depressed and not been communicating in recent months.
Compounded with worries about your son's posting I am sure you have been going through hell this week.

I think help with building your wine pond back to a lake will be coming. I know the Granacha from the meal deal (along with other spanish and french wines) is offering £5 off a £20 spend online or c&c. 3 bottles gives a PP back against a's of £8.97.
Many are combining with meal deals or going through quidco or tcb as new customer for an extra £6-8 cashback.
So a £60 spend minus £17 minus £5 is down to £37 with £8.97 pp minus cb
Not that bad. Some are buying c200 toothbrushes with code and then changing their minds which I believe brings spend down to £10 take off the cb then £2 ish

I am not the best one to give wine advice but this deal is going on until 14/10.

    Big Hugs
    V x

Of all the stuff I have to put up with from my cat- the birds, mice, rats, shrews, voles, suet balls (!!!) and goodness knows what else, the one thing I can't cope with is when she's sick

You can guess who's just been clearing it up can't you?? :pale:
