Having got fed up to the backteeth with posts and gravel boards rotting on my fence (because nexts doors garden was been built up to lean against it some time ago) I went for concrete posts and boards. 5 years on and haven't regretted it for one minute. Agree to paint the same colour as the timber bits.
Cheers
They are not actually allowed to do thatDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
It is possible to have concrete posts and a proper wooden fence(arris rails) that hide the posts on your side.
the wooden fence at the bottom of our garden 100mm post arris rails and wood gravel boards 20y+ and still going some of the boards have warped a bit.
the regular 75mm posts and panels most if not all changed at least once.
if doing the concrete on the cheap with slot in you can always cover the posts with a extra board.

Wood all the way. Concrete looks horrible. Don't even think about it.
Put in concrete and it will bother you every day.
Pressure treated wood from Grange will last 15-20 years no problem. Even more if you go for 100mm instead of the thinner 60 or 75mm ones.
Wood is lovely. Concrete is grim.
Well that's my humble opinion anyway0 -
wood looks much nicer and blends in better with surrounding.
so wood for me. You can paint the bottom of the posts with bitumen paint to try and stop it rotting, it should last a long while anyway0 -
Wooden fence looks nice I always prefer to get info for ya.
It's great to change and not to stick for one like @phill99 says it will be with for years. But i have taken help from xxxxx factory, they did it good. showed up early.0 -
We are shortly going to replace our old rotten wooden fence , and are going down the concrete rail and gravel boards. I would prefer the whole wooden look but this is a fairly long stretch of fencing and the other side of our garden is a sloping grass verge then the road so fingers crossed it will last longer and look better then the fence does now. Painting the concrete hadnt ocured to meVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

Have you considered concrete grandfathers/repair posts with wooden posts bolted to these. This is what I have and you barely notice the grandfathers at first look.0

Our wooden heat treated fence is four years old, despite regular treating it needs replacing as the wood is starting to rot.
At our last home we had a fence like the one in the link below (i have no idea who the company are, just an example)

We are getting this sort of fencing, you can also paint the concrete so it blends in if you're neighbours don't have their own fence.0 -
4x4 Wooden posts are generally far more durable than 3x3. If you can select your own and buy ones cut what I believe is called "quarter grain" too, and feel their weight, heavier is more dense.0

I replaced my concrete posts this Spring with wooden ones and it was the best move by far. The fences and posts are all painted and the end on the garden looks great.0
