Which would you use to put up a fence wooden or concrete posts? I know there are arguments for and against both but I am just about to put up a new fence and really can't decide.

Concrete. Will last for years and years unlike wooden. Use concrete gravel boards Sewell to keep the fence panel off the ground and with regular wood staining, you'll get many years out if it.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Neither but in between. It's a 1980s detached house.
I realise that concrete posts will last a lot longer but they are so ugly I don't know if I could live with them.0 -
I'm in an 80's detached too. I went for the concrete option in 2009. I don't mind the look at all. MX5huggy makes a good point - might look a bit naff on a 200 year old cottage!
In the front of my place I have a small 'return' of fence and painted the post that it's attached to, the same colour as the panel (using the same wood treatment I used on the panel). Four years on and the post and fence panel still match and unless you get up close, you wouldn't know the post is concrete.0 -
Having got fed up to the backteeth with posts and gravel boards rotting on my fence (because nexts doors garden was been built up to lean against it some time ago) I went for concrete posts and boards. 5 years on and haven't regretted it for one minute. Agree to paint the same colour as the timber bits.

Thanks. It would seem that concrete posts are the way to go.0

It depends what you want to achieve. Concrete is more durable but wooden fence posts treated and installed correctly can easily last up to 20+ years.
Concrete is hideous when compared to a beautiful wooden fence, so it just depends on whether you want to it to be purely functional or whether it should enhance the look of your property.
As an example, have a look at the third pic down on this site:

You're never going to achieve something elegant like that with concrete. But maybe you don't want to either?0 -
Clearly you havnt seen this company's concrete fences; Natural Art Concrete Fence. I had them installed 4 years ago and it looks beautiful.0

I'm always suspicious Lolo when we get a new member here om Mse and their first post is about how wonderful a product is. But i'm pleased that you're happy with your fence.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
