you appear to be looking at your son as a cash income.
you should be happy that he is doing something to better his prospects.
his dad is still able to support him, but under no obligation.
if his blood relative has no obligation, why would you expect strangers to help?0 -
You rely heavily on child related BENEFITS to keep your family, to the point where there are hiccups you cannot pay DD. I'd say you are on benefits, why do you not think so?0

If you have other children you won't lose £20 a week - it will be £13 as your next oldest child will get the increased amount. Altogether Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits will go down about £65/week - but he will be earning over £100.
The loss of CSA from your ex eaves you around £30 worse off - are you sure he wouldn't be willing to still pay £30/week - particularly if this is the correct career path for his son and the alternative is continuing in college and having to pay £65/week.0 -

Not necessarily - the OP's OH is on a good wage, plus her earnings, based on 2 children they could lose a lot.0 -
Sorry but i'm with the OP on this one.
youngsters should stay in education until their 20 - it doesn't pay for them to take a low paid job with no prospects as it wouldn't give what tax credits/child benefit/csa pays - plus there are far fewer jobs around now than there used to be so staying in education makes sense.
As for apprenticeships and internships - they should be outlawed  . They are merely a means of keeping anyone other than the upper classes out of certain professions. I'm astonished it's still allowed. No-one can be an apprentice or intern without wealthy parents.
My children will be kept in education till their 20 - theres no rush for them to go out and get jobs when wages are so abysmal anyway.Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -

Paid for by you or taxpayers?
You disagree with Saturday jobs then or are they not minimal worthless opportunities.0 -
taxpayers have always paid for young peoples education. Not quite sure why you object to this.
Nothing wrong with Saturday/evening/part time jobs though - in fact they are beneficial to youngsters.Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -

For staying in education until the age of 20 you are paid £0, for attending an apprenticeship they earn a wage. Your children are free to make their own decisions as adults, you are unable to 'keep' them in education until they are 20.
I think its funny that you believe apprenticeships are for the upper classes, I'm yet to teach an apprentice mechanic who has upper class parents, I'm yet to meet one with wealthy parents either.0 -

Just because you teach apprentices doesn't mean that you know how much money their parents have. How could you?Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -

If they have more children, the most they can lose in Child Benefit and Child Tax Credits is £65/week. If they have high earnings they could potentially lose less but not more than this.
They will also lose £65/week CSA.
They will gain £100 apprentice wage.
So, the end result is they are £30 or less a week worse off.0
