Hi brendang, Any letter you received from DLA regarding your award has a page of information stating
The changes you must tell us about .... You must write straight away if any of these changes happen to you. .... Your illness or disability - We must know if anything you told us changes about how your illness or diability affects you. You must tell us if things get easier or more difficult for you. And you must tell us if you need less help or more help. ...etc
So I would write to them, some may tell you to phone them BUT I would write so that you will have correspondence and can keep a record.

Remember that if you decide to inform them of your worsening condition, your award could be increased or you run the risk of losing the award you currently have. I'm not sure if they would just ask you to fill in another form or maybe ask for evidence.

I'm sure someone will come along who knows exactly what will happen especially as the PIP has begun.
  • hi TOBRUK,thanks for the reply,i was just wondering if I would come under the new Pip rules or Dla,my award was a lifetime one and I have never been contacted with regards renewal etc since being awarded it years ago, still unsure wether to phone them or as you say write to them,i have been in the support group of ESA for two years if this means anything ,thanks again

My experience of dla has been constant renewals, it's certainly not an easy benefit to obtain and was/is rigorously checked. My last renewal a few months ago I sent over 90 pages of form and evidence to the dwp.

DLA has now ended if you were to ask for it to be looked at again it would now be under the PIP's

I believe it would still be DLA as long as the request is submitted in the next week or so.

Hi, I have just had a positive outcome in asking DWP to look again at the Mobility Component of my claim, as I have become a lot more disabled since my original award.

I telephoned them on 9th September, received the form 2 days later, sent it back to them on 14th and received notification of a change from LRM to HRM on Friday, so just under 4 weeks from asking for the claim form to receiving their decision.

I believe you have until around the 21st October to still be considered under DLA, before it changes to PIP.

    Good luck.

Any Change of condition if reported before the 28th of this month (this date may change) will be treated as DLA. After this date it will be treated as a PIP claim and they will look at the whole claim under the criteria for PIP.

I was told by DWP a few months ago the day for change over is 10 October 2013.
