This picture shows a man rather than a woman but I wear a buff like this for skiing and it's really comfortable and warm...

  • you tube has loads of hijab tutorials, just type in 'hijab tutorial'.

You might get some funny looks if you wear one with a mini skirt though...

Oooh that's pretty darn cool, Code! Before spending a fortune on postage, check the shops. I'm sure I saw things like that in Primark and the like last winter so you may find something cheap on the highstreet? :)

My daughter bought a wolf hat like that one last year in a shop in Blackpool, but the Sunday market at Ayr had them too. She paid less than £10 for hers. I'm sure you'll find them all over soon, when the cold weather kicks in.

You can buy those buff headcoverings in the Scout shop in elmbank st, it's next door to the Guide shop.
I have also seen lots of these animal type hats on the high street, so maybe a little shopping day in town?
Alternatively, maybe someone could knit you a trendy hat with the long ear flaps.

Code when I went to NYC in the snow I wore this thing my mum got from Canada which essentially was a fleecy thing that you can wear like I did, along with a snood and scarf(!) and wraps around your lower face and can cover your ears if you position it right. Just like a big band really.

Plus if you wore a snugly hat then not much cold would get in. You can buy them in ski store type places they can't be expensive.

It was so cold there with everything I had on all you could see was my eyes but was easy to remove when going inside.

I'm so sorry about this & I'm still stalking u btw xx

How about ear muffs and a big scarf (or snood) around your neck that you can pull upwards around your jawline.

    I liked this one

(I quite often pull my scarf up in winter because cold air on my lips is a massive trigger for cold sores for me.)

The actual hijab doesn't just cover the head, it's meant to cover the neck, shoulders and chest almost as far as the waist.

I sympathise, though. Because of hair loss, no one ever sees me without some sort of head covering. The number of times I've been asked if I wear it for religious reasons - am I a Quaker, for instance? (Although AFAIK Quakers don't wear anything different from anyone else!)

I wish we still wore wimples, as did our remote ancestresses. Or even as the grandparents did, always wore a hat and, further back, a shawl over the head.
    You could try this:

Before I found wisdom, I became old.

Actually, I'll extend the question - if anyone can think of any stylish methods of covering my head that wont result in me being arrested if I need to go to the bank (balaclava or tights), please help. A hat wont do the job as it wont come low enough.

just google for stylish/warm headscarves/headcoverings - that should give you some ideas to get you started :).

Also, check Lidl and Aldi's winter skiwear special events - last year (before winter set in) I got a kind of a scarf which was a fleece tube, it sits above my shoulders and fits up my neck and to my ears, so protects the lower half of my face. It wasn't expensive, no more than a couple of pounds, and I prefer it in the really cold weather, compared with normal scarves, because it stays put.
