At three for a tenner i might be inclined to give them a try but i'm very well stocked this year.

I've got about 300KG of smokeless, half a pallet of hotties and at least 4 cube of wood in stores.

On that basis i've got my Hawaiian shirts ready for christmas as there is no way in hell that it is cold when i'm so prepared :)
  • Ho much do you burn !!! im hoping 2 builders bags of logs and 100KG of smokeless will get me through the winter, please tell me you have like a 20KW boiler stove

As these are bagged as well they may be better to store than loose or in boxes, heat logs have to be put in a dry place. I not sure of the rate but look smaller than Aldi ones last year they lasted about 20-30 minutes. I tend to use heat logs now just to supplement stove and give a boast in heating rather than main source of fuel on stove.

Last year i used about 1.5 cubic metres of wood and about 250KG of smokeless and some odds and sods of briquettes (not very much, just a few different trials).

    5KW stove.

The additional (2.5 cube) wood won't get used this year, likewise i don't expect the hotties to all get consumed either.

I expect to use the smokeless very sparingly, it is more left overs from last year.

I work to the principle i have the space and i'd rather have too much than too little.

Looking for wood in December or Janaury is going to end up in tears.

I got 45 minutes or so out of the Aldi (Ukheatlogs).
I managed about 90 minutes out of an equivalent Hottie.

I was only interested in trailing these ones to see what the burn rate is, not for this year as something i'd be interested in stocking up on.

I'd concur the Aldi ones are excellent as a supplement, which was pretty much how i used them too.

I have 1 metric tonne of smokeless plus a carport full of decent logs. I might need more of both. That's with a 14kw stove, no hot water and only burning for 6-7 hours a day.

Damn expensive business, this home heating!

The heatlogs aren't bad at all just tried them tonight.I never tried hotties

I got some Briquettes from local supplier who normally does garden fencing, shed etc. They look flat type bricks.I am surprised how good they are seem to last a bit longer than others I have tried and quite cheap £6.99 for £24 used them mostly last night and haven't had much ash itw as really hot downstairs 24-25c and that was keeping dampers down on burner I had to go upstairs to cool down
  • where is the best place to buy hotties not in bulk i dont have very much storage. also are they ok for smoke control

Whereabouts are you Michael? And how much space could you make? The beauty of Hotties is that you (or most average users anyway) can get a whole winter on a Euro sized pallet. Because of their shape they'll stack like bricks with no wasted airspace at all. It works out a fair bit cheaper to buy in bulk - ie - by the pallet.

We deliver smaller quantities here as well as pallets - but we're probably in the minority as far as other sellers are concerned - many of them will only deal in pallet orders, and most of them don't do the deliveries themselves - we only do it as we have so many out of the way customers that a big wagon couldn't actually get to. We can only offer this service locally though - once you get past three or four packs, it costs almost as much to send them with a carrier as it would to send a full pallet. I was quoted £38 by ParcelFarce to send three packs wrapped together as one (around 30 kilos) Pallet rate is only around £60 - and that cost is usually included in the price of a full tonne, so it makes a lot more sense unless you have a supplier you can collect from in person. Price per pack will tend to be higher though - we sell at a fiver a pack for small orders which is a fair bit less than RRP - and we make literally pennies on a sale. Buying by the pallet you'll be saving around £1 per pack even on our prices, and we're cheaper than many.

Has a good look at these on Sunday and decided to give them a miss.

My impression was they were a smaller version of the ukheatlogs that were available in Aldi.

They were darker in colour, which suggested they'd gone through a higher level of pressure, but they were not that firm in the hand and the bags were all full of bits.

I could see them as a good supplemental item but, considering the brand name & price, they weren't what i was expecting.
