Anyone can tell I am asian - my skin colour :D ! .
But you will be away on holiday. :D

Do people really think that Asian owned or occupied houses probably have lots of gold in them?

I know a few Asian families and none are particularly rich or have more gold than average, although I suppose they wouldn't necessarily tell me if they had.

All you can do is take the necessary precautions and be properly insured. None of us are safe from thieving scumbags.

How will random burglars know you are Asian?

    .

I think the issue is, and I tried to make this point earlier, most burglaries are not random.
They involve some degree of observation and planning. That does include watching what type of persons house it is, do they have valuable cars etc and when is the house empty/occupied.

Yes, of course there is alway the opportunist who simply arrives on the doorstep purporting to deliver brochures, and if no one knocks, tries every mean of entrance that can be carried out with tools he can carry in his pocket. That type of thief can usually be put off by the more simple, normally recommended means, the professional burglar is however a different animal, he does work on a whim, he considers his risk very carefully.;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I am worried sick about burglary - we are going away for 2weeks in December....
I don't have recipes for gold
Neither do I but wouldn't it be lovely.

safety deposit box at a bank or similar. Simples.
Also, how do I evidence electronic gadgets I don't have receipts for?
Remove them from the property too to a place of safety if it worries you that much.

    Cheers

Most housebreaking is random and opportunistic though.

Next door's alarm goes off so often that nobody bothers to even look out of the window these days but she thinks she is safer having it.

I think the fact that once you have been burgled, the more likely you are to be burgled again goes someway to disputing that though.;);)

    Opportunistic? Yes, they try everywhere.
Random? Absolutely not, if they get 1 clue that a property does contain a worthy booty, they will target that property.

Can I have my hook back please? :D There is a substantial difference between housebreaking and burglary. You are right [STRIKE]about[/STRIKE] concerning the latter and wrong [STRIKE]about[/STRIKE] concerning the former. :D

    Cheers.

We've just been burgled, and I have just ordered an alarm, but I understand its limitations.

Whoever did our house came prepared. They had the tools to force open a rear window, and once in, they broke into our safe. As professionals I don't think an alarm would have stopped them coming in, but I think they may have just grabbed the Ipads and laptops and gone. That may have saved the contents of the safe, and stopped them ransacking the rest of the house. And believe me, the idea that someone has been in your house and gone through your things, is as bad as the fact that stuff has physically been taken.
So in our case, its more of a damage limitation / small peace of mind thing, than a real preventative measure.

As said above, oppurtunist thieves look for an easy way in. It won't be the alarm that puts them off, but the fact that everything is locked up.
