Sue them, burn them, ask for compunsayshun (sic).
Alternatively, check the warranty card that came with the watch. all 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' watches currently on the House of Fraser website say they come with a 2 year guarantee.
Panic over, cancel the lawyers, tear up the 14 day letter-before-action.
You do have proof of purchase and the warranty card, don't you??0 -
To repeat ThumbRemote's earlier post...
THE FIRST STEP IS TO TALK TO THE RETAILER
You don't need to worry about who is going to pay court costs etc if the retailer will sort it out for you first.
So, talk to the retailer and let us know what they say.
If you are unhappy with what they offer, then consider your next steps.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -

It's nice to have some evidence I guess that my instincts were spot on and I should have listened to it!
Thanks for the tip about Omega -it also makes sense if MJ watches are made by fossil, as the receipt I have for it says "fossil" not Marc Jacobs...which I thought was weird.
Me.. well i was going to buy an Omega and i was prepared to pay for it because i thought there was still a high level of individual craftsmanship involved in manufacture. When i did my research i realised that that was no longer the case so i didnt buy one.
I bought a very nice citizen metal braceleted watch instead and im very pleased with it.
I have successfully made claims on goods outside of manufs warranty and i hope you get satisfaction.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

You knew that Marc Jacobs didnt really have his own watch factory staffed by craftsmen whittling away at little wee lathes, wearing eye pieces and hand crafting your watch. What made you buy it was the base instinct of all humans to feel like they belong and also to advertise their place in the pecking order. Its natural. Thats why so many people walk round with names like Superdry all over their chests.

Yup was in a similar boat to yourself, I had always wanted a good quality swiss watch until I did some research into it!
Future Mrs Chimp to be, ended up buying me a Christopher Ward watch which i'm very pleased with too!
Haven't had to make a claim yet, but from friends who have done so, i've only heard good things!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Few years ago I bough a Seiko automatic. It has a proper mechanical movement which (and I don't know why) pleases me.
It also came with a certificate to say it is tested to 300m of water. (Sadly I am not).0 -

Thanks, where did you see the info about the 2 year guarantee? I can't see anything about it on there.
Anyway, I do have the receipt and original box and booklet - at the back of the booklet there is a "certificate of warranty" with a date and stamp saying "Fossil UK Ltd, c/House of Fraser, Oxford Street". It doesn't say how long the warranty is for but there's an address for a Fossil UK service centre in Milton Keynes and a number for office hours. Once I get back from the shop tomorrow I guess I'll be calling that number on monday, depending on what they've told me...:)0 -

Thanks mateThe reason I bought it was for fashion really, the name was an added cachet of course. I do like the look of their chunky bezel ladies watches, and mine doesn't have the name emblazoned all over it which I prefer, but I never really thought about the manufacturing process! I kind of assumed it should at least be of good quality for the price.
Even if I do get this watch fixed up or replaced, I think I'll keep it aside for special occasions and get myself a cheaper and much more reliable "normal" watch for every day! So you recommend a citizen do you...?0 -

Well if you were to google 'Marc by Marc Jacobs' watches House of Fraser you would find this page at the top of the search list:
I have not looked at all 50 of the watches listed there, but certainly the first eight all say:2 year guarantee0 -
BTW, if anyone's interested, I found the watch on the HoF site - they are still selling it but it was about £10 cheaper when I bought it.
This forum won't let me post the link as I'm a new user but if you look it up it's called the Pelly watch.
I still love it...sigh0 -
