Could you take your future finace to a designer and get something made for her?

    With luck, a delighted fianceee.

If you intend to spend that much, you risk a very expensive mistake *without* including Herself. If you can find her "ring size" (ask her mum or best friend for help?) you can suprise her with a placeholder/token/gesture ring and then delight her with some serious choice.
After all, you are hoping she'll be wearing it for the rest of your lives. Congratulations & good luck!

Let her choose tbh. I found the ring I wanted which I bought on line and was thrilled with btw. I then had to hand it over to my now DH who had it for 3 months before finally proposing with it.

Longest 3 months of my life but he wanted the proposal to be a surprise at least as the ring wasn't.
  • You also need to take into account the metal as this will impact on how much money is "left" for the stones. A 9ct gold or white gold ring will cost way less than an 18ct or platinum ring.

Also lots of smaller stones tend to be cheaper than one large one of the same quality.

Personally, as a woman, Id propose with a token ring, then choose one together (ie let her choose):rotfl:
  • I don't know what you'd get but I'll tell what you need - your head examined! £1200 on a bloody ring?

If you went down to Hatton Garden in London, you'd find that £1200 is a relatively modest budget in the world of diamonds

as already said it depends on the mental (gold/white gold/platinum etc) and the setting (as in how intricate the ring is).
i've recommend chapelle before as thats where my wedding ring is from and they were way cheaper than any other jeweller i'd seen, and the service was brilliant

What business is it of yours if the OP wants to spend £1200 on a ring?

It might not be what you'd do but people have different priorities - and different income & budgets.

I wouldn't presume to criticise you if you posted that you were looking to book a holiday for £5K - because it's none of my business what you choose to spend your cash on.

Do you have any relevant advice for the OP?
  • I'd aim to try to get at least 20% off the 'ticket' price of a ring... don't be fooled if they show the prices of the diamond market, as those are the 'priced up' prices

£1200 def isn't a huge budget! Overreaction of the century

    Definitely!

Mind you, as the member who posted that the OP 'needed his head examined' started off £32K in debt maybe they aren't really the most appropriate person to give advice on how to spend money. :rotfl:
