Part time hours refused as too many existing part timers

While the company may have agreed to other request that aren't obliged to agree to another one especially if they are finding a problem with the current arrangements.
Take my company, the admin made a request to reduce her hours by half so the company directors agreed to make it a job share so we now have two admins each working 2.5 days. One the beginning of the week, the second the end of the week with a 30 min hand over at Wednesday lunch time.
The problem now arising is that the lady leaving Friday can't 'hand over' so Monday morning the other one starts with no idea what's been happening. Friday staff is getting stressed trying to finish everything, meanwhile Monday morning is like a battlefield as that staff member picks fault with everything the other member of staff has done in her absence and was constantly phoning her with questions.
Up shot of all that it that me, as the full time accounts person, is now spending far too much of my time managing the office because we have admin staff that haven't a clue what's going on, consequently my boss is pulling out his hair at my nose diving productivity which he does acknowledge is through no fault of mine.
Needless to say the directors view the whole thing as a complete and utter disaster and are looking at ways to fix it but I'm pretty sure it's the first and last time job share will ever be suggested in our workplace :rotfl:
PPI Success :- Egg Card - £ 8471.84 ~ HFC Loan - £ 8312.67 ~ Halifax Loan - £ 334.67
DFD ~ Jan 2019  Christmas 2014 fund ~ £ 150 / £ 500

Can't tell you the number of similar tales I've heard about jobshare.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
And if they wanted to get another part timer to make up my hours, surely an additional one hour to make it 16hours will not be a problem for the business?
Employing people costs money - you don't seem to understand that.
More staff equals more management time and admin costs for a start.
You do understand that the business primarily exists to make a profit and not just to employ you, don't you?I thought if someone makes a request for part time hours as a parent, they have to consider it seriously and must have a valid business reason for refusing it.
But it seems there are people here who are saying they can refuse for any reason they see fit, including situations that do not even exist!
The business HAS considered your request and has given you a reason for refusal.
It has a policy - which is very likely to have been well thought out based on business needs - and your request falls outside of that business need.
You need to start seeing the bigger picture... the company does not and cannot revolve around your needs.:hello:0 -

There is no legal requirement for reasonable adjustments because someone becomes a parent.
Don't be so up yourself, it was just a reply!0 -
The current part time employees are also mothers so cannot do more hours.

That's not an answer to the question asked. The OP may well be making assumptions that aren't correct.0 -
