  • Wanted to just open account pay in the minimum amount to qualify for £100 then close it when this is done.
I work for about five agencies on supply work so get salary from different places do I have to change them all to get paid to Halifax or will just one do? Thinking ive got a rarely used current account so with abbey so could i set up some of the d.d. i have with lloyds(which i want to keep open and still do main accounting with them) to that account then open the halifax one and just give them those few. Not sure how long it take to transfer d.d. so it would show up on abbey account would i have time?
What sort of checks do they make to see what the income and out goings are on an account would they know im only paying in the minimum salary and d.d. ?
Am I thinking tooooo much ?

You can go into the branch and pay in £1000 per month if you want - it all counts

they do not have to switch your regular credits

give them the sort code and account number of the account where the dd's are you want to transfer and ask them to switch your debits, not credits (you could alternatively send a standing order of £1000 from the other bank to halifax each month)

I joined the last time round and now want so set up an account for my gf.

She does not however have £1000 income going into her account with lloyds.

Do you think she will be accepted ???

Does anyone know if internal transfers (eg from a savings account with halifax) would count towards the £1,000? T&C's don't appear to prohibit it?

I'm reliably informed (by a well respected MSE'er who has Halifax & BoS current accounts and a websaver or two) that internal transfers do count towards the higher interest rate. However, I certainly wouldn't risk them for the £100 incentive.

to have a current account you do not have to fund the account with £1000 per month, but to get the high interest account this specifies £1000 a month and also to get the £100 it specifies £1000
  • Just thought I'd say that my switch to Halifax went smoothly and I've now received the £100 incentive (without chasing) a couple of weeks before it was due.

I'm not being smug, I just think that the criticisms on this site need balancing with the cases when everything goes fine.

So is that 4 weeks after the end of the month you paid in your second £1000?

Yes, just under 4 weeks. 1st credit was June, 2nd in July.
