Guarantee just expired and fridge broken

Options
Hi I'm hoping someone can help me please. In June 2011 I bought a Beko fridge freezer from Appliances online. Beko offer a 2 year guarantee and of course it has now broken just after it expires.

Would I be able to push for a free repair or will I just have to take the hit and try to find the cash for a new one. I did expect it to last longer than 2 years though!

Thanks for any help

Scroll up to just above your post.

Click on the link where it says:
Quick links Consumer Rights: "Give me my money back!"

In there you will find it is worthwhile pushing the retailer.

Do as Wealdrom says. You're entitled to a free repair or if it can't be repaired - a free replacement, although in some cases there may be a small pro rate charge for the two years you had out of the fridge before it broke down.
  • Thank you both. I'm sorry I should have looked there so thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • Massive thanks for the advice. I got onto the company this morning and and quoted soga etc. They tried to fob me off telling me to contact the manufacturer but I held my ground and they have said to get an independent engineer to assess it then they will pay his costs and either repair or replace the fridge.

Thank you so much again for the help

Well done. A wee tip. Most of these companies use a 6 year duty of care threshold. They won't tell you that in advance though so stick to your guns.
  • Maybe I spoke too soon! I have just received an email from the company saying
As per your earlier conversation with my colleague I can confirm that you are going to arrange for an independent engineer to attend your property to assess your appliance. If he determines your appliance was delivered with an inherent fault, we will cover the cost of that visit as the costs of a repair or an exchange.

Now on the phone he just said get a report and we will sort it out nothing about it being delivered with a fault. I dont think it was delivered with it its just happened.
Not sure where to go from here.

Get the engineer out. Try to use their own recommended company.
  • I asked if they could recommend one but they said no just use anyone!
