If they cancel your flights they should offer you an alternative at no extra cost. Don't pay more for a flight further away, however if you incur costs getting to the other airport and they have given you plenty of notice then they are not going to offer you the cost of getting to the airport. For most airports, I would say take a refund and book with someone else, but Doncaster Airport appears to have been a complete disaster and I suspect there are no alternative airlines to choose from

more information needed - when is the flight for and what is the route?
they should offer you a refund or reroute (at no additional cost to you)
If the flight is in less than 14 days EU compensation will apply
  • Hi,
I booked the flight on the 9/8/13 from Doncaster to Pathos , I noticed that the Flight from Manchester was a lot cheaper but as i live in Doncaster was happy to pay the higher Price, The week after i looked on the Thomsons Website and the Flight had disapeared. 6 weeks after this they have emailed me that my Flight is Cancelled, Yes they have offered me the Manchester Flight but my argument is it is going to cost me £140 in a Taxi and they wont refund the Difference of what i would of paid for the Manchester Flight if i had booked it on the 9/8/13 instead of the Doncaster Flight, What if they make a habit of this , People Booking a Higher Priced Flight then being moved to one they could have booked cheaper, Its WIN WIN THOMSONS.

Why a taxi, why not public transport?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

have you asked Thomson if they are arranging a coach to take people from Doncaster to Manchester?
  • Train gets in too late and no Thomsons are not arranging a coach, Thomsons have it all sewn up .

Why should she rough it? Its Thomsons who have created this problem. If in fact the Manchester fare on the day was lower, they should refund the difference too.
Its a commercial decision to cancel the Doncaster flights.

    No they don't.

With reference to EU regulation EC261/2004 http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:EN:HTML

Article 5 and 8 say when your flight has been cancelled they have to offer you a choice.

    Article 5
    Cancellation
    1. In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall:
    (a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8; ...

    Article 8
    Right to reimbursement or re-routing
    1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between:
    (a) - reimbursement within seven days, by the means provided for in Article 7(3), of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
    - a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
    (b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
    (c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.

Presumably you'd like to be offered (b), so ask Thomson for this. Find the best alternative that suits you and maintains your holiday and ask them for it. The regulation doesn't say you can only be re-routed on Thomson, so if there's a preferred flight from say LBA ask for that.

BTW lewroll took Jet2 to task on this https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3070460

and Jet2 didn't let it go to court.

You still haven't told us when the flight was due to depart ???

You also need to tell us the specific date that Thomson notified you of the cancellation ???

Without that information it is impossible to work out if you are eligible for Article 7 compensation ;)

You could receive up to $400 euro for that flight :D

Have they also cancelled your return flight, if you had one, if the answer is yes post the dates that apply to that flight as well.
