ITV4 I Want That Car

Did anyone watch this new series last night? They managed to spin out 2 blokes picking from a choice of 3 cars each for a whole hour. It was a bit like Used Car Roadshow but on an even smaller production budget.

The 1st guy (white van man during the week) had £18k to spend on an 'attention seeking' weekend car so they offered him an '07 Audi TT, '07 Boxster or a .......... '12 Fiat 500 Arbarth! Talk about a car out of leftfield. £18K could have got him a '09 Focus RS or something with similar power. Bizarrely he ditched the TT and test drove the other 2, but then proved he had no idea of enthusiastic driving, despite the presenter incessantly telling him to 'floor it' or 'give it the beans' on her majesty's public highways. No mention made of running costs of a Porsche versus a Fiat either.

The best bit was the female presenter who didn't get a lot of airtime, but deals in flash cars for a living and competes in some porsche boxster cup. Easier on the eye than Penny Mallory but I'd still rather watch Used Car Roadshow every time.

Didn't see it but it sounds slightly better than that new reality TV show set in a fried chicken shop watching the customers :p

Or 'Gogglebox' where you watch people watching the TV. Actually yeah I want that car wasn't too bad after all. Still waiting for a new series of Classic Car Rescue on channel 5 to get commissioned.

At least gogglebox is reasonably interesting though! What on earth could be interesting about a fried chicken shop dining area? lol

I blame the government. Now we're being sucked dry of cash, the TV stations have decided that the once cheap cookery shows are now expensive and decided to go with anything that will let them fix a camera to the wall.

What cash does C4 get from the government, and how much has it gone down by?

The problem is the government, but the reason isn't the one you give. Almost complete lack of regulation is the problem. Without it, TV companies will naturally go for whatever tripe maximises profit.

A ford focus is about as unattention seeking as you can get! I think a skoda in VRS form only just tops it.

I'd have walked straight down to the Lotus dealership

Can't wait for the new classic car rescue, 1st series was hillarious.

Attention seeking as the main requirement?

I'd have offered him a Nissan Skyline, some sort of big yank LHD muscle car and for the leftfield option: a Mazda AZ-1

Focus RS I said. And in Ultimate Green it's about as attention seeking as you can get (with the power to back up the looks).

All depends on the kind of attention you want to attract.
A green RS is more likely to attract hoodies than pretty ladies.
