Currently on JSA want to move onto Working Tax Credits......

Want to start my own nail business I'm all set up ready to go etc.
Want to go on to Working Tax Credits and go self employed or is it just better to go work in a salon?
Anything I need to know about WTC, will I still get housing benefits reduced council tax and free school meals! Without these I would be worse off.
Any help or advice will be great.
Thank you x

no free school meals if you receive working tax credits. Housing benefits will take into account the tax credits as well as your income and be reduced accordingly
You would need to work over 16 hours per week if you are a single parent...do you think you would be able to get 16 hours per week?0 -
You shouldnt really say it like, "I want to move from JSA to WTC" you should say I want to go back into work and not rely on WTC which I know is still considered the same as JSA without having to sign on every 2 weeks!0

working tax credit is the same as JSA without having to sign on every 2 weeks?
i thin you need to go back and read up on benefit entitlement0 -

But it is. For people with children working tax credits combined with bogus self employment is a very effective scam.
Don't say things like that on the Bens board Nada666. They all close rank on you and make you out to be the one in the wrong.

Which is why that scam is being shut down under the welfare reforms, when claimants go onto the new 1 benefit payment, Universal Credit (replaces 5 income based benefits: JSA; Working Tax Credit; ESA; Child Tax Credit; Housing).RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Have you written a business plan? Researched your market? Found out the best places to advertise, and why? Found out about insurances you may need?
I absolutely think that it's a great thing to be SE, but it sounds more like you just want to stop signing on and having to go to the job centre.0 -
Isn't that a good enough reason on its own?
if thats what she wants to do, why not just get a job?0 -
Please don't become a self employed writer - you will start an epic thread if you do....
....it could go on for years
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Actually, you really don't need to tell me the benefits of WTC, i am 10 weeks into having become self-employed and i claim WTC.
As someone who is doing this, i spent almost 12 months preparing, doing research, attending workshops on self-employment and making sure that i could make this into a 'proper' income.
I never said that anyone is 'cheating' so i have no idea where you got that from.0
