Cannot delete folders on external HD

I have a Humax HD Fox T2 receiver and have recently purchased an EXT160GBHDD External USB 160GB hard drive to record programs. They work well together and I am very pleased except for one thing: when a series of programs has been watched and deleted from the hard drive the containing folder stays and I can find no way to delete it through the T2 box. I have also tried to connect the drive to my PC to see if they could be deleted from there but my machine doesn't see it and the HDD light on the drive flashes red intermittently which is presumably a warning?
I would assume that by formatting the external drive again through the T2 box I will finish up with an empty drive but that isn't convenient at the moment because there are other files I wish to watch.
Can anyone suggest a methodology whereby redundant folders can be deleted without the need to format?

Thank you very much. I've done that and read the documentation. From that it appears that this program can only be run from the command line: is that correct?0 -

Not sure if this is any help but it worked for me. Using the remote control navigate to the folder. Under the volume control on the handset there is a button called OPT+ - once pressed this has an option to delete the highlighted folder.
I even us this route to delete from the Humax.0 -

Sorry - I have nothing else to offer as that always works for me on both of my Humax machines.
Oh - can you copy your files onto the PC and then reformat your external drive and then copy back over?
You may get a better and more techie answer if you post on the Techie board - there are some great knowledgeable chaps over there.0 -

Never thought of that - thank you.0
