The Rising Popularity of Comping

Well I preferred it when there were less compers and less competitions because my success rate was much higher then.
I only spent a fraction of the time comping then compared to what I spend entering them now and I used to win some well worthwhile prizes and many holidays.
If I were to put a value on my successes nowadays I think I win 50 pence' worth of prizes (in realistic value) for each hour I spend entering for them on line.
If people were honest about it I think that would apply to most compers who are entering online these days.0 -
I am quite new to serious comping too - just over a year now. When I first started I was entering everything like crazy and winning loads of small/random prizes. I've slowed down a bit now and I don't win as much - but what I do win, I really want!
I like the selflessness of MSE compers, pretty much everyone is happy to help and share with each other which is great. Plus more people definitely means more comps. I know everyone dreams of winning the ITV comps but they are so popular, with non-compers alike that the chances of winning are ridiculously slim (but still fingers crossed aye!)
I like seeing new compers on the board - we were all there once!
:T:T loving your post & agree wholeheartedly :T:Tplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

I like your post but that perception that "pretty much everyone is happy to help and share with each other" might be a bit optimistic.
It is true that possibly everyone you actually see posting does eventually contribute something useful to others on here.
But for each poster who shares information on here there will be hundreds or thousands of others who never post even once but will happily take in the infomation for their own benefit.
Added to that there will be the automated entry companies who for many years have come to sites like MSE and others for the information so that they can enter thousands of their own paying clients into these competitions.0 -

I agree. What actually baffles me most is the fact people set up secret little competition groups on Facebook to share competitions with different groups of comping friends, yet these people also use MSE. So why the need for secretive little groups? Why not just encourage everyone to post what they find on here? I've even heard people declare "Someone stole a competition from my wall!" :rotfl: It's ludicrous.
Any, back on topic. No it doesn't bother me because what would happen if there were no new compers - well when the compers who post the most "retire" who would take their place? places like MSE Competition Time would die off. Some of these "newbies", if encouraged and welcomed, will turn into posters of comps and contribute.A closed mouth gathers no feet.0 -

I've previously posted on MSE the comps that have been shared around little comping groups (all of them members here) that they haven't bothered to post. These are mostly from peoples' open pages, where they have tagged their mates so they can enter too. One of them once had the audacity to moan that some of the smaller, low entry comps had been posted here so there would be lots of entries by the time the comp ended. How I didn't reply back with something containing a few profanities I don't know ...
I know some people say 'so what if they're not posting the comps here?' but it annoys me that one or two of these people use this board to moan about things but all the time they're keeping comps to themselves. So when people ask, how do certain people win so much - that's how!!
Sorry to go off topic ....0 -
Ive been comping since mid February 2013 and Ive won a good few things. I didn't win anything until April time I think and that was £100 Next spending spree, my biggest prize was my £500 John Lewis vouchers. I enjoy comping, it doesn't take over my life I probably spend an hour a day doing it and seldom do it weekends. I only enter comps I want so what I've won I've wanted. I spent the JL vouchers a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, to have £500 to spend in a place like that is great and I got loads of gifts for families and friends for xmas, some of which I probably wouldn't have got otherwise.
I thank all who post the comps on here, I am never quick enough to post any myself. Please keep up the hard work!:money::rotfl::T0 -

I don't think that is the person you think it is.

I have a '?' look on my face when speaking to WAG most of the time:rotfl::rotfl:
A group on FB accusing someone of having many aliases. Threatening to get the police involved. Sad, really, from grown women. I mean I don't like cheats but these guys trip out the same vitriol month after month.0 -
Sounds like a lot of drama0
