The Rising Popularity of Comping

Does it bother anyone that comping is getting more popular over the years and lessening your chances?

I'm a newbie and I must admit that it bothers me a little bit. :o However I do like how this forum has a good community full of nice people who encourage each other to win, and it's nice to share a win and read about what other people have won. :)

It doesn't bother me, the more the merrier :D Like you i'm a newbie to comping and like the fact there are those on here who have been doing this for years hearing their stories of wins and getting advice from them is really motivating. However it's also lovely to hear from new compers and experience their excitement at winning for the first time, and experiencing things through comping that they may not have been able to. :D

Whilst the opportunities to win may become less, more compers on forums such as these mean that we're finding more competitions to win - so swings and roundabouts really. I'm relatively new to comping and I love it so much - it is a great new hobby. It isn't just about the winning :D

Lots of people start and then give up, not so many stick at it. It is one of those taboo hobbies like train-spotting, stamp collecting, etc and majority of peeps will never get it.
I currently have a standard PAYG mobile and would love a smart phone. I don't need a smart phone though so will not get one until I win one :) Tried explaining this to a friend and it went straight over her head..... I could afford one but that's not the point to me.

  • It doesn't bother me at all our time will come one day!

I started comping about 3 years ago and was winning a lot more than I win now, but since starting up again in march this year i am winning less but higher value prizes so it's all good! :-D

Like it's been said, I comp on and off for two years, I wish I could actually stick to doing it every day but I don't have the time or will power.

Lots of people start but give up when they don't win. Advents usually do most people bar the most determined compers in.

Fair enough it gets more publicity, but a lot of people don't and will never understand. Let people start and think they will get instant wins, then they give up...

:) I don't mind, I've not noticed any decline in wins :) xx

There might be more compers around, but there are also a lot more competitions than ever before. I think the rise can be attributed to the number of casual compers than those who do it for several hours a day, so in the end there shouldn't be much difference. And like brownhandbag said, not many will stick at it.
  • I am just gutted that I didn't start years earlier. I always got the mickey taken out of me because I enjoyed filling in forms and stuff like that but I've only put it to good use in the last three years or so! I don't like thinking about the amazing experiences I could have had when I was younger (not that I'm old now!) had I cottoned on sooner.
  • Haha Fluzz, I have always enjoyed filling forms in. It's silly isn't it but there's something therapeutic about it. I also wish I had started comping earlier.
  • Thanks for all the comments. There are some good points made. :)

Well Glamourpuss, looks to me like you have made a very good start :)

I know lots of people who spend hours playing games like angry birds/candy crush saga etc and they think I am the sad one?!?!?
