Virgin Broadband Problems

I have had ongoing problems with Virgin Broadband and TV in my area (York) for the past 4 months. The latest problem started yesterday and I was advised that the resolution date will be 7th October 2013. I had 3 months of problems from July to Sept with a similar area wide problem stated as the cause. The scale of the problem was not given to me at the time and each time I called to complain (often waiting over 10+ minutes to get through) I was told the problem would be fixed in a few days. This rolled on and on and I was eventually told early in September that the problem had been fixed - and it was for about 3 weeks. I think I got about £120 of credit to my account but I really need a consistent internet service - nothing flashy (we dont download films or music) just one that works 99.9% of the time.
Does anyone know where I can find internet service statistics for the York area?

Wouldn't help, really. Their service is rated immeasurably better than the ADSL kludge offered by competitors and this 'infinity' nonsense. I have the 120Mb service and apart from odd glitches has been reliable.
As long as they rebate you for services not received, they're playing fair!0 -
if you really need a very reliable internet connection, then you will need to something like a Leased Line.
no consumer broadband will guarantee 99.9% uptime0 -
Buzby - how can I make an informed decision on reliability if i cant view the statistics? is there something like the information from train punctuality that i could view?
Cycrow - i am not sure that 99.9% reliability is too much to ask for. if that is too high i'd probably take maybe 1 day downtime a month rather than the 7 im facing this month0 -
It is alot to ask for, especially for the price your paying for broadband0

Statistics are meaningless - they are averaged and do not reflect real line speeds or reliability, but mostly are company confidential. Further there are really only 2 delivery companies, Virgin Cable and everyone else (who use BT's local loop).0

What Infinity nonsense? We are not all fortunate enough to reside in a Virgin fibre optic cable network area.
I left Virgin as soon as Infinity became available in my small East Sussex town last December. I opted for the faster speed and I am happy I did. A desk top, a portable, a Dell Zino, 2 iPads and an iPhone and we are still able to enjoy over 60mbs via wifi. The dreaded buffering experienced while running any of the TV players and YouTube videos has long been forgotten.
No glitches and we're 9 months in.
My daughter lives in a small Cornish village and they too enjoy superfast Inifnity. Skype between us is brilliant!
I have a better chance of becoming Prime Minister than the chances of a Virgin cable in either of our two areas.
OK, so what's this Inifnity nonsense? Pray tell.
Thanks.0
