Fake Bose Headphones from DiscountVouchers.co.uk

Options
My first foray into buying something promoted as a deal from DiscountVouchers.co.uk has gone awry! We bought some Bose Noise-Cancelling Headphones via a Daily Deal and they did seem too cheap at the time!

However, because I was buying them via a bigger website (DiscountVouchers.co.uk) and not from some Hong Kong based seller on Ebay I was hoping there wouldn't be a problem! When they arrived I inspected them and their packaging really well to see how authentic they seemed, and we thought the sound was excellent.

Anyway, my first foray into the Discount Vouchers / Groupon / Wowcher world has turned out to be my last. I had an email today saying that the headphones, which were provided by a third party, were in fact counterfeit and I could have a refund - but minus the postage which was paid directly to the dodgy company which supplied them.

Has anyone else out there bought the same Bose Headphones from a company called Koolwears via DiscountVouchers.co.uk?

And are these third party providers really trustworthy?!

  • I received the following email yesterday......not sure if it is genuine email from Discount Vouchers. Anyone else received this email

    Dear DiscountVouchers Customer

We have been in discussions with Bose with regards to vouchers sold by us in Jan 2013 for redemption against Bose headphones provided by a third party, Koolwears.

Bose has received reports that the products supplied by Koolwears [now renamed as Bobex Ltd] are counterfeit. Bose has investigated the reports and confirmed that all of those items are not genuine Bose products. Therefore, it is almost certain that the supplied products are counterfeit products which were not originally manufactured by Bose.

As such, we have agreed with Bose to redeem the original voucher purchase you paid to DiscountVouchers.co.uk, subject to you completing the online form:

You must press "submit" at the end of the form to register your refund.

The product must be returned using the Product Return Form (attached) for processing

All products must be received by 4pm on 4th November 2013. If you have already returned your product to Koolwears/Bobex Ltd, then please provide evidence of having done so as instructed in the form.

This refund offer is only for the voucher price paid to DiscountVouchers.co.uk, and excludes any postage costs, since these sums were originally taken by Koolwears/Bobex Ltd. Should you wish to pursue them for these costs then please contact them directly. We are unable to enter into any further discussion in regards to postage.

The only contact details we have for them are as follows.

    BOBEX LTD
    145-157 ST JOHN STREET
    LONDON
    ENGLAND
    EC1V 4PW
    Company No. 08029833

    Previous Name: KOOLWEARS LTD

Counterfeit goods are a matter for consumer direct.

I posted on here because I received the same email and also wondered if it was genuine. I am wondering how many people are affected. I can't find any other information anywhere else on the web.

I am also aggreived because not only do I not get reimbursed for the postage paid initally (as Discount Vouchers are saying it's because it was paid directly to Koolwears) but to get a refund on the product, I have to send the headphones back to Discount Vouchers and pay the postage for doing so!

Surely, in a case like this I should not be out of pocket even a penny - let alone approx. £10.00!

Bobex ltd have a " proposal to strike off" on companies house.how did you pay?
I would contact your bank and consumer direct asap. What you are being told isn't necessarily correct. Don't wait too long.
These goods are. " not as described" under the sale of goods act

Can't just take away your statutory rights.

Why not email Bose a copy of this letter as they mention Bose in it.
  • I have just emailed Discount Vouchers asking them to explain why I am not being fully refunded when these devices "" not as described" under the sale of goods act".
    Will wait for a reply.

Please post it here because I would be interested to know what their response is. That was my first and will be my last purchase from them, I don't trust them as a company at all now.

Have you heard the real Bose headphones? I wouldn't be surprised to find that the fakes sound as good as the real ones as, amongst audio enthusiasts, Bose are better known for clever marketing rather than sound quality.

As above, if you are quite happy with the sound quality, why not just keep them.....

No highs, no lows, it's got to be Bose - that's what a few of my sound engineer friends used to say.
    1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
    2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
    3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?
