Shame on Eon......
So Eon are ending a tariff for the elderly... they blame Ofgem as they have to reduce the amount of tariffs. Ofgem respond by saying that Eon couldve kept this tariff running.
The bigger scandal is they announce it today the 2nd October, and the Tariff will commence to end from the 7th October.... 5 days away...
So all this confused and elderly customers will be bumped onto the most expensive tariff....
Shameful.

Big profits to be made from the OAPs in winter. Well done EON.0

No, shame of Ofgem. This is Ofgem's fault. Restricting core tariffs to four is stupid. Why should Eon alone be limited to three universal tariffs through maintaining that option for pensioners?
Either everyone should be mandated to offer a StayWarm tariff (like they are mandated to offer the annual credit) or no-one has to.
Pensioners who do not use much fuel three quarters a year are also being hit by Ofgem - they now have to pay large bills through standing charges even before they have flicked a light switch.
It is not all bad news - a significant number of pensioners unnecessarily using lots of energy may now use heat more sensibly (still adequately and cosily but it may now be possible for visitors to drop by without being pushed back at the doorway from the furnaces.)0 -

(This topic also being discussed from page 24 in the StayWarm sticky at the top of the page. But, moderators, that does not mean this thread should be merged - it also needs an airing here.)0

Where do all these confused and elderly customers come from?
I'm elderly but certainly not confused.
I'm not on a standard tariff.
All it takes is a phone call and if the so called confused and elderly customers can't do it themselves then they should let someone else do it for them.
I have a few friends who do not have internet at home but I run their online accounts for them.
They tell me their readings and I put then in for them, or I even go and read one of them's meter for them as he cannot read it himself.
It annoys me about all these people who go on about the elderly and confused who are incapable of getting a good deal for their gas and electricity.
If you are that concerned, help them, I do and I'm elderly.Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:0 -

There are a lot of elderly people who are confused, especially when it comes to energy bills..... my a lot of young folk are confused by who bills are worked out...
My point is they arent giving a decent window for people to change.
By the time the letters hit the doors, the change will be happening eimmediately for folk.
scandalous.
im sure one day, you maybe confused, and requiring help, but is that help always there at the tap of a buttonPromo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?0 -

Thank you for this! We're absolutely not all confused and I resent the implication that all of us past a certain age (which?) are confused. 'Elderly and confused' is an emotive phrase which conjures up certain images. I'm sure we can all describe what they are, the media have made sure of that, but many of us do not fit the stereotype.
We're with Eon, and we do keep a close eye on our energy usage. From time to time Eon offer us various options and we could change if we wanted to. We looked at the Staywarm option but decided it would be of no benefit to us. We get a triple discount, for paying by direct debit, for reading our own meter and for dual fuel use. We've even been offered Tesco vouchers, but turned that down too.
DH has an 'elderly' friend i.e. older than we are now, who has recently been in hospital for some major heart surgery. He was not chuffed to be sent to a 'geriatric' ward for recovery and rehab, but found himself sharing a room with a man aged 100. They were able to have lots of interesting conversation. DH's friend described his room-mate as 'pin-sharp' and he himself is a highly-intelligent man who enjoys keeping up with issues of the day.
I'm reading Ruth Rendell's most recent books, and given that she's over 80, she's anything but 'confused'!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I can only echo most of the previous posters. The notion that elderly people need their own bespoke tariff is akin to labelling them "poor and stupid".
As a general rule, surely the elderly have more disposable income than the under 25's? Should we have a special young persons tariff?0 -
Not stupid, but some old people do get confused over the modern way things are being run.
My mum is 83 and far from stupid, but for the life of her can't understand all the different tariffs the utility companies offer. She therefore sticks to what she's known all her life, and that is the standard tariff.
And as for the posters that say the elderly are better off, live in the real world. Alot of elderly people only have their state pension to live on.

Hi all
Thought I'd just confirm, we have decided to close our Staywarm tariff.
Staywarm was actually withdrawn for customers to switch to in September 12.
From 7 October 13, we've decided it will close altogether as current contracts end.
We'll continue to honour existing contracts with the last customers moving off in October 2014.
Unless we're told differently, Staywarm customers will be renewed on to our standard tariff (E.ON Energy Plan). Unlike some other tariffs, our standard plan has no restrictions or tie-ins. This leaves customers free to switch tariff/supplier at any time without penalty.
We're writing to all customers as their contracts end asking them to contact us so we can make sure they're on the most suitable tariff for their particular circumstances. We started doing this in August.
Where customers don't contact us, we'll be actively phoning them.
Hope this is of interest.
